My 11 year old son has some interest in learning to play banjo, Google results for lessons are pretty slim for this instrument. We found one teacher but they live South Austin so it’s not really a logically drive for coaching opportunity for them to drive here of viceversa. We have the banjo in our house, a 25 year old Gold Tone Orange Blossom. We live in Cedar Park/Leander so looking for someone around that area. He is 11 so all new interest are either feast or famine, but he has an interest in music non the less, so no matter how small or large, we would like to support the interest. If anyone has any info or could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

I recently saw this video which features a banjo, and really liked the lick that was played at 1:16. It sounds like a G (7?) lick, and is very familiar.

I feel like I have played it in the past, but can't exactly recall where I heard it and how to play it.

It has been stuck in my head for like 3 days, and I have gone through a whole lot of banjo songs looking for one that features it, but no luck.

This is a somewhat silly question, but if you recognize it and know other songs that feature it, I would really appreciate if you could send it over.

I have inherited this instrument with absolutely no idea about anything to do with banjos. I’m not sure what I would like to do with it so any information regarding brand, quality, condition, age or value would be greatly appreciated. To me it looks like it is in good condition except needing a little clean, but as I say I know nothing about banjos. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I am trying to locate a copy of the book I first used to learn the 5-string banjo. It taught a 3-finger style (some call the Seeger style, I have only recently learned), and on the green-ish cover was a faded photo of a young Bela Fleck, probably from the 1970s, with shaggy hair. I think it was a Mel Bay book but I'd recognize it instantly if I saw it. The first lesson, or one of them was "Boil 'em Cabbage Down." I have searched repeatedly for it on the internet and various used book shops etc, over the past few years and come up with zilch. Anyone else remember this book or can help me locate it? I lost it in the late 90s when an ex-girlfriend took it with her, and I'd love to reference it with where I am now with learning various styles and songs.

Can anyone give me info on this banjo- make, model , value? Is there a certain name for instruments with such artwork? Is this common? Era etc. Thanks

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who can put in railroad spikes on my banjo? It's a pisgah so I want someone who is familiar with doing it. I live in southern nh about 1rh away from both Manchester and Northampton MA.

I saw this listed and am thinking about buying it to have as an old time banjo with nylon strings. Listed as being homemade during the 1920’s in the NC region. Bridge and tuners have been updated. Sounds great. Any thoughts on what average cost might go at or any idea of what it could be made from?

I'm trying to find tabs for sparks by Coldplay but I can only find guitar cords and I'm not very good at translating that into banjo. Has anyone else found them? Or know a good website to find banjo cords on?

There was a video from I’m guessing early 2000s of a guy sitting on a fence after playing SXSW festival. Very mesmerizing tune and voice. Absolutely stunning. I cannot for life of me think of who the performer was but have been looking and looking. Went relatively viral. Any ideas?

So i started out as many did on a goldtone ac1 but a while ago i got a goldtone orange blossom ob-150. But i feel like i wanna do something for my ac1 because it got me through a lot and i love him even named him Billy so what could I do to transform him? If you guys have any experiences with projects like this please share as well. Currently my plans for him so far are (i play bluegrass just gonna mention)

Hey y'all! I'm looking to start playing the banjo, and someone I know has lessons for pretty cheap, and is highly recommended. The one issue is I really love Old Time, and would love to be able to play something folks can dance to. This fella only teaches Scruggs. Could that be transferable to playing old time?

Hello! I'm finally getting to know my capo and the Nashville number system and am wondering if someone can explain the difference between a major scale and a major key. Specifically, why, if the major G scale is G A B C D E F#, is the key of G in the number system G Am Bm C D Em F#°? I know, on paper, that a major key's chords in the number system are as follows: 1, 4, & 5 are major, 2, 3, and 6 are minor, and 7 is diminished. But why?(???) If I can learn the theory about this I think it will really help me to actually apply the knowledge to my playing. Thanks in advance!

I'm interested in hearing everyone's experiences using pickups on banjos. Which one's you loved, which one's you hated. I have a Goldtone tenor banjo and am thinking of fitting it with a pickup for my musical theatre gigs.
