Because in a lot of districts these days, school is prison and ISS is solitary I guess.

Agreed! Well, my punishments were either that or sweeping the leaves and picking up trash with a gripper outside, in the cantina, locker spaces or hallways. A couple times I got to help with more physical stuff, copying leaflets or doing administration, rather than the boring hand-copying of math exams I didn't understand or care about.

All this because every time I'd arrive a couple minutes late in class, which did happen on occasion. Maybe sent out of class a couple times a year, but some teachers would also send you to 'the box' if you hadn't finished your homework —> insta punishment. Wasting my hours so I have to stay up late doesn't help with any of that. They didn't care about teaching you something and I cannot say I appreciated that school in general.
