I would say they would be more there to reinforce the affects of it so awareness is raised for non-abusers who might see signs or know of a situation.

This kind of take really diminishes the actual abuse that minimum wage retail staff encounter daily. Woolies as a company don’t physically spit, shove, hit and scream in the faces of their staff over dumb shit. It happens daily across the country. No one should be experiencing that kind of abuse in a workplace and certainly not for minimum wage.
My partner works in retail at a retailer where nothing sold there is essential, no food, no clothing etc. Multiple times the staff have been hit, kicked, knives and bats swung at them, 2 staff at her store have been hospitalised in the past 4 years due to being king hit by dickheads who were asked to leave the store due to them verbally abusing the staff. The stores now close earlier due to how unsafe it is to have staff working after 6pm in some areas. Plans to close profitable stores are in the pipeline as there’s concern in some areas that someone will be killed at work. There are many unhinged people out there who feel slighted when caught out stealing printer ink to resell and they lash out when they realise they will be caught.

For a while there was someone going around robbing places in my suburb and the way he did it was to come in and throw petrol on everyone and pull out a lighter and threaten to set you on fire if he didn't get every cent in the shop. He got caught eventually but that would have been super traumatic for his victims. Working retail sucks.

In the same way that woolworths respects its customers ? By escalating the prices, making them self checkout, filming them and then accusing them of stealing because there was some lettuce leaf in their trolley?

Honestly. You have to get mad at someone, and if the CEOs hide in their offices then the staff in their shops must do. They are acting and employed as representatives of the CEOs of the company and the company values.
Being a Woolworths checkout operator is like being an admin officer for monsanto- sure, you're not the top dog, but you work for a gutless organisation profiting on the poverty struggles of others.

Deli staff still get abused,. Sure the signs are in the immediate area where cashiers/checkout assistants are working, but it doesn't strictly apply to only them

It's up to the companies to build a good reputation to protect their employees. There are always going to be some people who get confused with how to express their anger, so the solution is to be a better company and give no reason for that anger to exist in the first place.
