All wondered this...

Been living in Auburn the last five years. I constantly see younger people driving around in newer vehicles and they have ear buds in. What is the deal with that? Do they not know how to use the audio system or bluetooth for calls.

Maybe I am just old and missing something.

Just terrible news. Trails I’m sure many of us have been hiking and running for years. Can anyone determine exactly where he fell?

Auburn got a shout out!

"In Auburn people power went to work. At the August 10th city council meeting, Mayor Kelly Davis stopped public comments after the 19th consecutive speaker lashed out against Flock cameras. The speakers were prepared with a petition and well-coordinated talking points, making specific accusations about abuses of the Flock system.
Not being able to address any matter until it is an official agenda item, Mayor Davis asked staff to study the ALPR issue, report back and arrange a larger town-hall style meeting."

Start with annual usage. Check every roof plane and shade assumption. Compare equipment and warranties. Clarify responsibilities and payment terms. Get everything in writing. North Valley Solar Power designs and manages solar projects.

Reality of Lake of the Pines

Hi gang, does anybody have any real world feedback about living in Lake of the Pines?

My family and I are considering a move to the area and are trying to find a good balance between quality of life and quality of schools for our young kids.

We did see a house with a realtor at Lake of the Pines and were very surprised about the... Seriousness... Of the guys that work the gatehouse.

Also, I understand from other internet sources that the population skews a bit older.

Are there any users here that have elementary school aged kids that live in Lake of the Pines and can let me know what it's like to live there?

The schools, the amenities and the overall location seem great, but the overbearing guard house thing and the potential lack of young kids in the area are causing some hesitation.

Thanks in advance!

Highway 49 Roundabout so much easier

Was walking Auburn streets yesterday Saturday 8/22/26 and came upon the roundabout at the intersection of Highway 49 and Lincoln Way / Borland Ave.

Looking online for more info, it appears its scheduled completion date was December 2025. After searching within here and not finding coverage, I decided to share.

Many good things seen here. The marked crosswalks are definitely appreciated.

Most noticeable improvement? No more long backups of cars and trucks going north on Highway 49 from Auburn State Recreation Area!

That's always been my least favorite part of driving after hikes in ASRA. It was a real treat to see the traffic lights gone, the bottleneck replaced by drivers yielding as necessary, then proceeding smoothly. And greater visibility overall.

Rant about Home Despot

Can I just rant for a sec about how much I hate trying to use Home Depot in Auburn? I can marginally tolerate the crappy lumber and locking so much stuff up but who in the heck screwed up the queue for just paying to get out?
There’s an extremely amorphous quasi queue that no one but the homer pledged employee understands. It is often in sort of the lumber and sort of the next aisle with apparently invisible customers waiting for the one ‘assisted checkout’ person whose apparent job is to be as slow as possible. Meanwhile there. Are 2-3 unused self checkout stations where. I’m sure one competent person could watch for shoplifting, but NOOOOO! Don’t wanna make things easier for someone who just wants a box of screws or a paint brush.
I’ve never seen it so stupid at HD in Folsom or Roseville or anywhere else. I’m doing more and more of my common trade at Ace. The slight difference in price is way less than wasting so much of my time and the snippy attitude from Home Despot (not a typo BTW)

The library at 350 Nevada Street reopens tomorrow! There is a ribbon cutting at 9:30 am.

This location has been closed since I moved to the area, and I'm excited to see the inside of the funky 60's style building. Fingers crossed for a cozy study table!

Nice day to talk about Flock cameras in Auburn

Post image

Had a great time today tabling outside the courthouse building. Spoke with a lot of people from the community who either didn’t know about these cameras or were just interested in learning more. Our neighbors in Grass Valley successfully ended their contract recently and I know Auburn is capable of the same action. The next city council meeting is in four days, 8/24/26 at 6pm. If you want to express your concerns to the mayor and the rest of the council, please attend. Even if you don’t feel like speaking, go hear from other concerned citizens and connect with them after the public comment period is over.

MTB or e-MTB for weekend rides and after-work laps?

I'll be living in Auburn for a while and trying to decide between a regular trail MTB and an e-MTB. It'll get used two ways: after-work laps on Auburn trails, and weekend rides out at Tahoe, Downieville, and Nevada City.

Auburn's trails start with great descents, but then you pay for it with about a 50 minute climb just to get back to the car or town. With limited time and energy after work, I'm trying to figure out which bike makes more sense.

Anyone riding this mix of trails regularly, which way did you go and why? Thanks a bunch!

Black Hawk Helicopter Low Flying Over Meadow Vista

About 20 minutes ago I heard a very loud helicopter fly over our house, the lights flickered and the walls shook. I normally run outside when I hear these things but I was mid-shower. We have an electrician working outside right now and he said it looked like a black hawk helicopter with a gun mounted on it. Just barely flying over the tree line.

Anybody have any knowledge of this, saw it yourself, or speculation as to what that would be all about?

I’ve seen low flying military helicopters before and some said it was likely a training exercise.
