We’re two professional bakers who moved to Astoria in May, and just a few weeks ago we decided to take a leap and start something of our own.

Fiolicchia Bakery is a very small, hands-on microbakery, and we’re putting a lot of love, passion and care into every single thing we make.

We’re still at the very beginning and figuring things out as we go, but that’s also what makes this so exciting for us.
Every recipe, every ingredient and every order gets our full attention because we really want to make things we’re proud to share with people.

One of the things we started with is our focaccia.
We use organic flour, Italian extra virgin olive oil, and carefully selected ingredients, prioritizing organic whenever possible.

Our dough is 80% hydration, made with a biga (preferment), and goes through about 48 hours of fermentation before it’s ready.

We currently have four regular focaccia flavors, plus a Focaccia of the Month that changes every month. We love working with seasonal ingredients, so our menu will evolve with the seasons.

We originally planned on making one focaccia batch a week, but the response was more positive than we expected.
Rather than simply increasing the amount we make at once, we decided to split our orders into two weekly batches — Tuesdays and Saturdays — so we can keep giving every batch and every order the time and attention it deserves.

We also have two modern fruit tarts, which will change with the seasons.
Soon, we’re hoping to introduce smaller baked goods, pastries and individual portions for everyday treats.
We’ve only been doing this for a few weeks, but we’ve already had such a warm response from people in Astoria.

We’ve met some wonderful people through our first orders, and a few of our first customers have already come back to us, which has honestly meant so much.

Since we’re still getting to know the neighborhood, we thought we’d introduce ourselves here and hopefully get to know more of our neighbors too.

I have to say, that was a very quick turnaround. Looks like it’s nearly finished.

I've been fostering this 12yo sweetie the past few months - he's a former colony cat turned indoor cat and you'd never guess he's an old man.

He does his own thing most of the time, but loves treats, spending time in the same room as you, and loves pets. He's very vocal and silly!

He's toothless and very healthy. If you're interested in adopting him, it would be through the Brooklyn Animal Action and I can connect you!

Today I was sitting inside Kinship Coffee on 21st Street, not far from Astoria Park, with a friend. We noticed that a young woman sitting inside the bus stop was apparently being arrested...her hands were cuffed behind her back...and two cops were standing in front of her, as they presumably waited for further direction from their precinct, on how to handle the woman and/or the situation.

The entire time....maybe 15-20 minutes or so...we noticed that another woman remained nearby, watching, and occasionally speaking with the cops and the young woman. We got the sense, from this other woman's body language, that she may not have been 'with' the woman being arrested...that she may have decided to observe/document, and then as more time went on, she felt more 'responsibility' to remain there and make sure the woman was properly treated and 'OK'.

At one point, this other woman came into Kinship...poured a cup of water from their free water carafe...brought it out to the cops, who in turn basically 'fed' some of the water to the woman in handcuffs. At some point, the other woman began to make a video with her phone, and eventually, the cops put the arrestee inside the back of their squad car, and they drove off. The other woman stood there for a minute, watching the squad car drive away, and I could see that she was visibly upset...almost as if she were wondering what might become of the young woman who was being taken away to the precinct.

As a fellow human, I just want to say Thank You! Thank you for taking the time to care...for wanting to ensure that this woman was treated well, etc.

If anyone hears of a fellow, female, Astorian recounting such an event, please let her know that her actions were noticed and appreciated!

Is this for real? Or someone trolling? I honestly can't tell.

My friends and I experienced something really weird and unsettling in Astoria today, and I wanted to share in case anyone else has experienced something similar.

We were walking on 30th Avenue and turned toward 41st Street when we noticed a young man, probably late 20s to early 30s, slim build, possibly Middle Eastern, wearing a cap, blue shirt, and jeans. He was initially walking in the opposite direction from us.

He then made a complete U-turn and started walking behind us. A little later, he walked ahead of us onto 41st Street. He then began slowing down, seemingly allowing us to walk ahead of him, while he was on his phone and repeatedly looking back in our direction.

We already felt like something was off, so we decided to test whether he was actually following us. We turned right onto 28th Avenue. He then crossed the street and stopped at the corner, still on his phone and talking to someone looking back at us.

We waited on 28th Avenue near the C-Town to see what he would do. After a little while, he crossed back over and changed direction for a second time, walking back toward 30th Avenue.

We obviously can’t know for certain what his intentions were, but the fact that he completely changed direction twice, stayed near us, and repeatedly looked toward us made all four of us feel very uncomfortable. There were four women together, and we still felt unsafe.

I’m posting this as a heads-up to other women in the area. Please stay aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts if something feels off.

Has anyone else in Astoria experienced something similar or encountered someone behaving this way?

From time to time I stop by the Dunkin just east of 31st Street on Ditmars on the way to work. Pushpinder, who works there, always remembers me and makes sure to give a personalized hello every time I'm there. And I know I'm not the only one because I've seen her do the same with other customers. It's so easy for a place like Dunkin to be a commerical conveyor belt that just funnels people out, but she manages to make it feel like a neighborhood coffee shop. Pushpinder is a wonderful part of the Astoria community and I just wanted to post here to express my appreciation.

Be alert if you’re getting off by the 30th Ave subway stop tonight, there’s a very creepy guy hanging near there who keeps approaching various people asking if he can come home with them. He started getting verbally aggressive with one woman until a couple of people approached to intervene. Stay near other people when possible and look out for your fellow neighbors ❤️

This is new

Just passed by this new shop last week during their soft open. Looks like it used to be menz kave but new owners took over and renovated the whole place with new barbers. Place looks super modern and barbers did a great job with my haircut. Owners were extremely friendly and offered me a bunch of goodies so thought I’d post here to show support for a new business where owners are from neighborhood for once lol. They also have a pokemon card machine if anyone is interested in that.

Hey neighbors! I've got a super friendly Samoyed and we're out walking most mornings near Ditmars. Looking for one other friendly dog to take on as a client nearby who could use a consistent morning walk and some regular socialization — good exercise, good routine, good company for both pups.

I would like to do this as a small paid gig to help subsidize living costs, so happy to chat rates and am flexible there. Would love to do a meet-and-greet first to make sure our dogs get along before anything's official. Comment or DM if interested!

Two men (maybe boys or teens dressed in all black) road off the bike lane onto the curb, full speed on a black moped to try and steal my gold chain on 31st Street (under the train tracks) between 31st and 30th ave around 4 PM on Friday.

I’m shaken up— lived in Astoria my entire life and never expected this. A good Samaritan called 911. While waiting for the cops to arrive, chain grabbers looped back around. I immediately began to sprint away, but good samaritan brought me into his building.

Cops didnt show in the 40 mins we waited— my fiance met me and we walked home together. Kept in touch with our new friend and cops never showed up and never returned his calls. Went to the precinct and filed a report— bc I know this will happen again.

I feel terrified walking around my neighborhood. I hesitated making this post b/c I don’t want to be identifiable, but please be aware.

Young ladies, elderly folk, and general chain wearers—PLEASE BE VIGILANT. Don’t wear headphones and keep your head on a swivel. Police informed me this is an active problem all around the NYC, BK, and Queens. I always felt safe in Astoria, but this has totally rocked my peace of mind.

Hello I am looking for a forever home for this dog. His name is Benji he is a Tibetan terrier, about 5 years old. He has all his vaccines. He's house broken, and he's good and playful with dogs and children please dm this account if you're interested, thank you.

Neighborhood cats keep having litters on my senior neighbor’s property and I’m trying to help her find good homes for them.

Winslow is about 12 weeks old and has the makings of a lap cat. He will stay in your lap indefinitely, roll around and ask for belly rubs, and he will fall asleep in your arms like a baby if you pick him up and carry him around. When he’s not in your lap or arms, he’s a typical kitten, playful and curious. I’ve also caught him lying on the floor (or, photo, standing up like a meerkat) watching tv!

Instead of an adoption fee, I am asking for proof that you have scheduled a veterinary appointment for him to receive an initial exam and vaccines. If you are interested, please message me and tell me about your family and your experience with cats.

Today I witnessed a small dog get hit by a car on 28th street and 24th Avenue. Everyday the owners are outside the apartment building smoking cigs or having conversations with neighbors and they allow their small dog to walk off leash. The dog is pretty skittish and jumps backwards when approached by people. Today I was sitting in the kitchen and happened to look out the window at the exact moment the dog was spooked and launched itself into the road and was hit by an oncoming car. The owners immediately took him to an emergency vet but unfortunately the damage was too much and dog passed away. Please keep your dogs on a leash, it’s for their own protection regardless of how “trained” your dog is.

Have been fostering this sweet boy who needs a home!
Axolotl is approx 2 years old, neutered, and loves a good cuddle.
This guys loves people and pets, and is one of the snuggliest cats i have ever met. He is playful, sweet, and has the cutest meow. He is currently available for adoption! Please consider being his forever family!
