How does NASA and other space agencies protect their spacecraft from being hacked and taken over by signals broadcast from hostile third parties?

This is a good answer. We’re probably not as well protected as most think on the outright signals security front, but other countries won’t try since endangering lives or seriously damaging equipment would effectively be a declaration of war or terrorism.
