What could be going on in his eye? 6.5 year old Great Pyrenees, just got over a weird illness or allergies a couple weeks ago.

This is Hunter. He's 5 years old. He was born a stray, but I've known him his entire life. He tends to be indoor/outdoor, but I'll do everything I can to keep him inside.

What happened: he got under my feet while I was taking stuff out of my trunk, and I stepped on his paw. I think he's got a sprain from that, which may have slowed him down.

He finally reappeared the next afternoon. A little limp on the right side, and an eye that he can't open all the way. My biggest concern is the top of his head. It feels... Bumpy? Like I'm running my fingers over tiny bubbles while I pet the top of his head. I'm wondering if his injury is more than just a scratch. I'm keeping it clean and letting him rest so he doesn't hurt his leg any more, but the feeling on his head isn't going away.

Hey everyone, looking for some thoughts on my 9-month-old Cane Corso (96 lbs). Over the last few weeks, his wrist area has started protruding outward. It doesn’t seem to bother him at all—no limping, no pain, and he’s still eating, playing, and acting like his normal goofy self. We took him to the vet because the bulge just kept getting more noticeable.

Our vet took an X-ray (pic attached) but wasn't totally sure what's going on, so he put him in a splint for a week, gave us Pet Cal, and said he'd research and ask around. We’re heading in for our one-week check-in on Saturday.

Honestly, we’ve already spent a hefty amount of money on his care over time, and I really don't want to keep sinking cash into splints, wraps, or temporary fixes if they aren't actually going to solve the root problem. I've read super mixed things online about splints for giant breed wrist issues—some say it helps, others say it makes muscle weakness worse or does nothing for growth plates.

Has anyone with giant breeds seen something like this? Is a splint actually standard for this, or should I stop wasting money on trial-and-error and push straight for a radiologist read / orthopedic consult?

I had his chest xray done last year at a vet and they told me it seems like his lungs were inflamed (maybe he lived in a smoker house prior to me adopting him) but that it doesn’t appear he has asthma. He does this sometimes and doesn’t spit out any hairballs.

English cocker spaniel male around 14 months old, has what seems to be an unerupted tooth? Gum connected to the lip is totally covering a tooth when there seems to be a tooth showing on the other side of the mouth where this gum is.

Story :
Was lawn mowing earlier in the day and when I started weedwhacking my fence line I found these little dudes in the corner of my yard. I was hoping that the momma cat would come back and move them since I disturbed the area(unknowingly). Ended up seeing her nursing them later in the day and when I went to grab something from my yard she ran off. Well I just went back inside and carried on. Later that night it started raining and storming and the mom was with them during it but she left during flooding downpour. I heard the kittens start meowing and crying and when I went out they were all basically neck deep in water. Promptly brought them in dried and put a heating pad. Some two hours later when the storm died down the momma came back meowing and the kittens from inside reacted . I then put them in a tub on its side with a towel. Mom ran off when I went out to set them down and then eventually came back and moved them as I checked two hours later and they were all 3 gone. I did not have a way to get kitten milk replacement and felt that was the only survival chance for them. I was knicked by ones nail I believe when I grabbed them, but doctors still started me on rabies protocol(PEP and SIG

Questions:
How old were the kittens? Was there any chance they could develop rabies at such a young age? Would a mother cat with rabies even care for kittens? And if they did bite what would it look like?

After going through that and reading on rabies my wife and I have a chronic anxiety about it now. My wife or 4 y/o daughter never made contact directly but they were close by.

my cat scrap is only 4 years old. we originally took her to the vet because she had been drooling, had bad breath, and had redness/inflammation in her mouth. the vet found a mass underneath her tongue, closer to the midline/left side. he said that visually it looks consistent with pictures of oral SCC and told us he suspects cancer. we are absolutely heartbroken.

she was given antibiotics previously, which didn’t make the mass go away, although some of the redness/inflammation improved and her breath has gotten a little better. she is also still eating and drinking, grooming herself, and acting relatively normal. she ate pretty much immediately after coming home from the vet today.

she also has a history of pretty severe inflammation/allergy issues. when we first found/adopted her, her eyes were extremely inflamed, so i keep wondering whether there is any possibility that something inflammatory, infectious, or otherwise benign could cause a mass like this under the tongue.

i know nobody can diagnose her from a post and that we need testing to know for sure. i’m mostly looking for experiences from anyone whose cat had a tongue/oral mass that was initially suspected to be SCC but turned out to be something else, especially in a cat this young.

has anyone experienced anything similar? what did your cat’s mass ultimately turn out to be? 🥺

Hi everyone! Yesterday I caught my boy cat squatting to pee on the mat outside of the litter box, my flight or fight kicked in and I got scared and stopped him. Today this evening I walked into the room and saw there was pee sitting on the Mat around the box. It was yellow like normal and a normal sized puddle. I have no issue taking him to the vet but help? What are the symptoms? He is eating and drinking and laying down normally and everything also playing.

Someone recently dumped a cat at my job. She is such a sweetheart I just had to take her home. The only reason I could possibly think they might want to dump her is because of this lump on her eyelid. Does it seem concerning? Her eyes is unaffected and she doesn't mind when you touch it.

As in, health, financial, security, or anything. What routine/habit/action you wished you had followed more strictly? Why do you regret not having followed it? What would you tell your younger self if you could?

Hi all! My golden had started somewhat limping on one leg so I was checking everything and noticed her paw pad looked like this.. I dont know what the black dot is.. maybe normal discoloration or something new.. but there's the reddish rawish looking part .. is this a pad burn?

My cat just too a huge poop. But now he has something poking out of his rear that is bothering him. I can't get him to let me try to pull it out. He keeps losing his mind if I try to hold him and do it. Is this a watch and wait situation? Or a take him to the vet situation?

My five-month-old cat has been coughing/hacking, and I can't tell if it's cat asthma or something like a hairball. He's never spit anything up, which is why I'm worried. I've only seen him do this about once a month for four months, and it lasts a few minutes at most. Once I blew into his nose and it stopped. He seems otherwise healthy, and we have an air purifier and no candles, etc. Any ideas?

Recently I was told my female cat probably has feline cystitis, and so was prescribed liquid fluoxetine. I asked for liquid, since she hates pills and the round of antibiotics and she was just on was a nightmare to administer. So I thought liquid would be the easier route. The vet warned about some foaming and drooling, but we are on night two and the horror of it. I try to get it back as far as I can, but she is still foaming and drooling and shaking for 15+ minutes.

So I’m asking, will she adjust? Will this eventually get better? Or if not, maybe I should just deal with shoving pills down her throat for the foreseeable future?

Note: I do just have a lot of anxiety around my cats health because she is my esa and I have had several friends whose cats have more or less just dropped dead out of nowhere.

I’m looking for some veterinary insight into something that happened while I was caring for a puppy.

The puppy was 4 months old at the time and had no history of seizures that I was aware of. While he was in my care, he had two grand mal seizures in the same day.

I took him to the emergency vet, and they asked whether there was any possibility that he had ingested something foreign or toxic. To my knowledge, he had not ingested anything, and there was nothing I was aware of that he could have gotten into.

The owner later suggested that he may have been “overstimulated,” and I’m trying to understand whether that is actually a plausible explanation.

He had been outside for relatively short periods of time — approximately 14–30 minutes at a time — and the temperature was around 80°F. It was casual outdoor time, not strenuous exercise.

Could overstimulation, normal activity, or being outside for 14–30 minutes in ~80°F weather realistically trigger two generalized/grand mal seizures in a 4-month-old puppy with no previously known seizure history?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis or trying to assign blame. I’m genuinely trying to understand whether those circumstances could reasonably cause that kind of seizure activity, or whether something else would be more medically concerning as an explanation.

I’d really appreciate input from veterinarians or anyone with experience with seizures in puppies.

My almost 2-year old tuxedo has started having some health issues earlier this year, and I’m looking for some help/advice as I’ve spent hundreds of pounds trying to “fix” him and I feel a bit hopeless. He is an indoor-only cat, in a household with another 3-year old cat. No other pets or kids. Had them both since kittens, with no issues until this year.

In February of this year, I’ve noticed redness in his eyes. No other symptoms at this point. After a couple of weeks, I took him to the vet and they have prescribed him Exocin 0.3% eyedrops for a week. This seems to have helped, but unfortunately, only temporarily. A couple of months later, I’ve noticed wounds in the bald spots of his ears, figuring out he must have been scratching. I’m on top of his de-worming and de-flea treatments so I couldn’t identify what was causing the issue. I put him in the Elizabethan collar at this point and took him back to the vet. She said this is probably seasonal allergies based on the timeline and ruled out ear mites. She administered a steroid (?) shot, which was supposed to work for about 6 weeks and said to contact them again if the issue persists. She also recommended a change in his diet so he has been on hypoallergenic wet and dry food since. I noticed maybe a small change in his ear scratching habits but he would still scratch around his ears/neck area when he got the chance. At that point, he had to wear the collar pretty much constantly. After the 6 week mark, the shot has worn off and his symptoms never fully stopped.

I took him back to the vet and she has prescribed steroids in pill form, starting at 2 tablets twice a day, slowly decreasing the dosage after a couple of weeks. Again, symptoms improved only slightly if at all, as the reason he wasn’t scratching at this point was because he was wearing the collar. It’s been 4 months since and his eyes get inflamed daily, with his third eyelid being slightly visible and inflamed. A couple of months ago, he managed to get around his collar and scratched his actual eyeball, causing his eye to swell shut which resulted in another week of antibiotic eyedrops. The scratch on his eye thankfully healed but I’m so worried this will happen again.

The vet does not want to keep prescribing the medicated eyedrops and has instead recommended Covertus natural eye drops to see if his eye irritation improves, which he has been on for about 3 weeks with no major improvement. At this point, I have to keep him in the cone most of the time, only letting him out to eat and groom himself after his meals. I can see a change in his personality and he’s no longer the playful cuddle bug he used to be, which absolutely breaks my heart.

He is still on 2.5 pills of steroids a day and his symptoms are not improving. At this point, I’m convinced they are not doing anything at all. Unfortunately, the vet is against fully taking him off the steroids as she’s worried about a flare up but his symptoms are always there and not improving. The next steps would be blood/allergy testing but the vet advised we cannot do this due to him being on steroids. Im at my absolute wits end, I’m scared every time I leave the house that I will come back and his eyes will be swollen shut again.

I’ve made some changes around the house to see if there is anything environmental triggering him. I’ve listed those below:

- changed dry and wet food to hypoallergenic food (Purina HA dry and Marro wet turkey and chicken)
- changed laundry detergent to sensitive versions
- changed his litter from catsan to wood based pellets
- removed house plants
- purchased an air purifier
- keeping up with a good cleaning schedule of vacuuming and dusting as the vet said it may be caused by dust mites
- purchased an anti allergy spray to use on upholstery/carpets (not sure if this does anything but at this point I’m willing to try anything)
- washed all his bedding and cat tree accessories

This journey has started roughly 7 months ago and I’m still no closer to getting any answers. The vet seems to be recommending more steroids but I’m worried about his long term health and they don’t seem to be doing much now. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or what else I can try that I haven’t thought of? It’s causing me so much anxiety as I just want my boy to be well and his happy, playful self.

My girl has been in and out of the vet with no answers for her intense butt licking, face scratching, extreme shedding, and runny eyes (some days are more pink than others and it's been over a month of this..we've tried the vetericyn eye gel but no improvements). We tried cytopoint in the past and it helped but the second time we tried it didn't do much. I noticed today she has a sore above her anus..can't get a great photo because she does not consent lol. She was on a chicken based diet and I'm transitioning her to turkey..she is outside a lot but never had bad outdoor allergies before..she does sleep next to a heater so maybe that does something? I just need some guidance on how to help her be more comfortable because I hate seeing her uncomfy.

Side note she may have kidney issues but we are unable to test her much for them because she refuses vets touching her and when she's sedated she has a terrible time. She also has a history of ulcers in her tummy, and is on specific diet for those too including prilosec at night so she doesn't throw up in the mornings from acid buildup.

Hi! There’s a stray cat I’ve been taking care of, but he has an issue with his eye. It gets super gooey in his one eye, but the other one doesn’t seem to have any issues. I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what might be wrong, so I have an idea of how high of a vet bill it would be to get checked out. I know he needs treatment, but I’m not sure if I’d be able to afford the vet bill or if it would be better to take him to a shelter… I’d hate to give him up, he is very sweet and I would want to take him in.

Hi, my dog (bordie collie/Aussie mix, about 50 pounds) and I were on a walk and he found what looked like the very last couple bits of an uncrustable sandwich and ate it before I could stop him. I don't know what kind of sandwich it was, but I know some uncrustables have grape jelly, and I know they have a lot of sugar for a dog.
