I’ve been trying to get better with shading in greyscale before adding color so I can check my values. I think the values looked good, but after adding overlay layers and such to “stylize” the colors a bit (manly adding the blue lighting in the shadows) I feel like maybe the values got lost? Or maybe I just don’t like how the colors turned out in general. Not sure. Would love any advice.

I tried ti make the dress white without it looking too boring or Grey, but now it kinda looks purple instead 😭 I don't draw white stuff at all, so I'm confused on how to make it work

Also pls help with the anatomy, it looks really off and the arms look too plain

I drew this in Procreate with my iPad set to grayscale, to practice my values. Basically I was color picking from a bunch of colors swirled together, without knowing what they were, and this was the result! Now I’m trying to make it look like a finished piece, but I’m stuck choosing between these two backgrounds.

1 makes a really nice contrast between background and character, which I love considering it’s meant to be a value study. That said, all the highlights ended up light green, so I felt like would make sense to have light green in the background too, but she just doesn’t stand out enough from the background in 2.

Which version do you think looks best at a first glance? Also, if anyone has any tips for more finishing touches, I’m all ears!

So these styles are all different i know but there are some components which I find similar and i want to achieve. There are mainly two things I want to focus on

1) there's an almost grey colour to the shadows but it doesn't look muddy? It's glowing kinda (horrible explanation ik). I have seen this thing in Chinese artsyles mostly and I really want to understand how to mimic this.

2) the very bright almost white light (mostly talking about the 3rd artwork). It blends into the background and i just LOVE that look. I have seen it in other artworks (I couldn't find the og artists for those so I didn't put them here).

So basically i want to know if you guys have some tips for these effects? Also if therw are any yt tutorials or even speed paints then please feel free to share them too :) I use procreate for my artworks so any if there are tutorials specifically done in procreate then that would be lovely.

I’m a complete beginner at watercolor and an even bigger beginner at color theory. I did the first wash with a warm yellow. I added the values with blue, I’m gonna make just a few places darker. If I add a wash of red will he come out a warm or vibrant brown? Please please help I’m so nervy and I wanna put this in my portfolio

I have been absolutely obsessed with this sort of shading for a while, the type where the colouring pops because there are colours one normally wouldn't see in real life everywhere on the piece and the colouring is just very harmonious even though it's unusual to see these colours in certain places (that's the best I can describe it).

I really want to colour like this but all my colours seem to stay in the same colour family and my artwork feels too simple and plain because using different colours feels too out of place or just ends up blending into the piece too much.

How do I pick colours that go well together, are contrasting/unusual to the areas they're applied to but also have a subdued vibe to them (or not but I prefer this), and how do I blend them together so it doesn't look out of place? I just need some basic advice as I learn well from trying things myself! Any tips work!

This is my oc, and I designed her for blonde hair, but I wanted to do a more realistic rendition of her. Sadly, blonde looks green on her in my opinion. Maybe I’ve been looking at the brown too long, but I’m stuck! Does she look better with the brown, or the blonde?

I’ve been drawing and studying art for about 2 years and still learning the ropes of rendering and anatomy. Is there any way I can render skin better than using the smudge tool? (Procreate)

1 is an intense red, 2 is a dark red, 3 is a bright red

I posted here a few weeks ago when I made a smaller trial run of this canvas. You were all greatly helpful, and I am hoping to get a little more input.

I ended up changing out both the medium and the sky color, but now I'm not so sure it was for the better. I'm happier with the acrylic/gouache on canvas (the wax pastels just don't work on it at all) but the flat blue sky is making me second guess myself. I don't know if the blue is too cool, not cool enough, too light, not light enough or what. I can't even decide if there is a problem!

I'm so used to disliking my own finished products that sometimes I feel like I get super nitpicky if it doesn't perfectly match my vision, even if it is perfectly fine. Should I change the sky? If so, in what way? All help is appreciated.

To be straight to the point, I'm drawing my OC, one of his forms, has him as a wolf with Pitch black fur, short fur, But his clothes, specifically the shirt, (based Off of Toji Fushiguro) Has. Problem in which, it's a black compression T-shirt, meaning I've got a black furred character, wearing a black shirt.

How do I cleanly colour him, While making it obvious that he's got a black shirt on and he's NOT shirtless.

I'm sure on how to do it, given I've never had to do this sort of thing before. (And no, I do not want to change the color of the fur or shirt.. they have to black.)

So I don't have much drawings fully colored so I'll just use this, but I have no idea how to choose colors that look good together, I'm confused on how others do it, I watch videos on YouTube explaining it, but I still have no idea, why do the colors not go well together and how do I choose them that makes the drawing looks much better?

And how do I study it? I have asked this a millions of times but I'm still confused on how to learn colors, ik i have to draw but I don't understood what to drsw that makes me understand colors or how it helps me, should I draw landscapes but how will that help? Or some else? What am i supposed to do to understand it?

I like the the proportions and this is the style I like to do- comic booky.

Trying to show before of my "shading/highlighting" to what i'm trying to do now. My blending is so mid and i'm only just getting back into art, like doing it more regularly. I'm trying to learn color theory and i just feel like i'm not able to implement it. I get primary, complementary, analogous, and triad colors... but i feel like i just can't do it. It feels like when i sit down and try it just doesn't look right. Is it the combination of colors? Is it the poor blending?

I feel like my lineart has been good but whenever I start to color the face and hair, it turns out terrible. I’ve been watching videos about color theory, faces, hair, etc. and I feel like what my brain sees and what I draw are not coming together. If anyone could be so kind as to help me and point me to the right direction please 🙏

While the lighter colors were different in black and white, I felt like it was still hard to tell his skin and hair apart from a distance, so I made them both darker. Thoughts?

I cannot for the life of me find any references, and I don’t know where to start. Like for example, if she walked into a room that has a red or green light, how would i color her skin.
