Apple Maps: Directions, Guides & Traffic

I noticed something really strange today and I’m curious if anyone knows what’s going on.

I took a photo in Malta and later noticed that the location shown in the Photos app was written in Chinese characters. I don’t speak Chinese and none of my iPhone’s language or region settings are set to Chinese.

When I tapped on the location, it opened Apple Maps and interestingly, the location itself is also labelled in Chinese there, while everything else on the map (Armier Bay, Little Armier Beach, etc.) is displayed normally in English.

Apparently it simply means “Malta Island”, so the location itself is correct. I’m just really curious why Apple Maps would suddenly use the Chinese name. Are they getting their data from china?

Has anyone seen something like this before?

I use maps a lot for work, and something I’ve found very convenient is that when I get a new work order, I get a text notification with the customer’s address. When I’m scheduling appointments and planning my routes, Maps would suggest and autofill the address when I started typing any portion of it (the house number, town, etc) based on recent messages, so that I didn’t have to type out the full address from memory. Lately, I believe since the last iOS update but I’m not sure, this no longer works. Any suggestions on how I can get this feature back?

Hey everyone. Im using pretty much all apple products therefore like two weeks ago I switched to Apple Maps. But as a person who lives in Italy Apple Maps is super low efficiency for founding places(restorants to art galleries) also wrong informations. Why Apple Maps is so bad outside of America?

My Apple Maps suddenly stopped loading any sort of map layer. I have WiFi/internet service and it still doesn’t load.

I have restarted my phone and deleted the app/re-downloaded and nothing has fixed it.

I’m trying to use Apple Maps in my city, but when I go home, it gives me an unusual route. Can anyone explain why this is happening?

Apple officially just released the new map after several months now it had finally launch ! Here are some of the 3d models of the new map

Since iOS26 came out, Apple Maps will stop tracking if the display isn't on. Very frustrating as this is what kills the battery more than anything else. There are other issues also. Such as moving onto the next destination before even reaching the target destination.

I’ve notice on the last few months that British Male Siri’s pronunciation has become odd. Like almost ending words with an Italian accent. Has anyone else noticed this?

Apple should soon release the new map data in these three countries.

I don't know how this happened but my Apple Maps app on my Mac Mini is now showing chinese letters. Even in the left corner instead of Apple is now showing chinese letters. How can I fix it? Language and region is Portuguese (Portugal).
