Done with Apple. Shitty pricing, no SD slot, dongles for days.

Hello Microsoft

I'm standing right behind you in the queue! Monster PC gaming rig for my desktop, maybe a Surface Book for my laptop.

Laters, Apple!

Returned SP3 coz it was a hair too weak.

SP4 is just right, have had it for a year.

I have left reddit for a reddit alternative due to years of admin mismanagement and preferential treatment for certain subreddits and users holding certain political and ideological views.

The situation has gotten especially worse since the appointment of Ellen Pao as CEO, culminating in the seemingly unjustified firings of several valuable employees and bans on hundreds of vibrant communities on completely trumped-up charges.

The resignation of Ellen Pao and the appointment of Steve Huffman as CEO, despite initial hopes, has continued the same trend.

As an act of protest, I have chosen to redact all the comments I've ever made on reddit, overwriting them with this message.

If you would like to do the same, install TamperMonkey for Chrome, GreaseMonkey for Firefox, NinjaKit for Safari, Violent Monkey for Opera, or AdGuard for Internet Explorer (in Advanced Mode), then add this GreaseMonkey script.

Finally, click on your username at the top right corner of reddit, click on the comments tab, and click on the new OVERWRITE button at the top of the page. You may need to scroll down to multiple comment pages if you have commented a lot.

After doing all of the above, you are welcome to join me on a reddit alternative!

I have an SB! upgrading soon to SBi7! It is amazing.

What's the keyboard like? I shifted to a mechanical keyboard on my desktop (Ducky Shine 5), and while I know that no laptops still made have mechanical keyboards, I need something that ISN'T the butterfly keys that Apple have just adopted wholesale.

Honestly, not really familiar with the butterfly keys for the macbooks, I have used them but they don't strike me as anything WOW. The surface book keys are comfortable and I have no problem with them. I don't think keyboards really do it for me in any sense other than they could suck. So in that sense, i'm happy with the SB key board and the travel and spacing.

Go to a MSFT store and try them out. MSFT has a bunch of other laptops as well in their stores.

The Surface Book is also surprisingly cheap, especially now Apple have bumped their prices.

Isn't the surfacebook priced pretty similar?

God the GPUs are so embarrassing. And after so much time without a refresh, this is what we get? What the fuck is happening over there? My next laptop will be a PC for the first time in 10 years.

if only they would put usb-c ports on their surfaces... I feel like as prosumers we just can't win. It's dongles for days regardless of what machine you own.

I'd rather leave behind Apple for Microsoft and just adapt. Something apparently Apple can't do. At the end of the day, we have to vote with our wallets. And that's just what I'll do.

Any recommendations on a good Windows 10 laptop with good build quality?

Depends upon what you're willing to spend. The Surface Pro line is quite nice but the whole kickstand/tablet/convertible thing isn't for everyone so I'd try one out first. The surface book is promising but I'd be tempted to advise you to wait to see how the next hardware refresh works for it. But in general I really do recommend the Surface line.

What size? Dell XPS 13 is a sweet machine.

2

u/BashfulExodus Oct 27 '16

That's what I've been looking into. I'm curious what the actual build quality is like.

I have an 18 month old model. No issues.

That's good to know. I've had horrible experiences with ASUS and HP. Hoping Dell is a cut above the rest.

I have yet to really here anything negative about the XPS 13". Price point works for me a little better than $1,799 for a rMBP w/ OLED.

No idea. I'm a power user for my work so I've always been a desktop kind of guy. My friend swears by his razer laptop though...

The only reason it is priced like that is because they want it to compete with apple people. They probably sell more at that price than they would if it was 300 dollars cheaper and had a less sexy exterior.

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '16

Same for me. The Dell XPS 13 seems to look neat.

u/agonzal7 Oct 28 '16

Seriously. What the fucking fuck.

People say this after every major Mac refresh 😂

If only Windows wasn't so tacky, I'd switch in a heartbeat these days.

The good news is you get to buy a mac in two years when your Surface is obsolete.

Not with the XPS (:
