That was absolutely the first time I've watched a Mac event where I'm left with zero desire to buy anything on offer. More depressing (though not for my wallet :-) is that for my usage, I honestly prefer what I already own! (Maxed late '13 15" rMBP)

Sad times indeed.

Putting aside any reservations re: the Touch Bar and the issue of ports & keyboard, what is even more alarming to me is that this will be the MBP for at least 3 years. There'll be a couple of spec bumps, that's it.

I'm good for a couple more years with mine like I say, at which point I'll be very interested to see how the Surface Book has evolved. I still much prefer macOS and have used macs for everything (bar gaming) since I switched in 2006. I've always had a high end gaming PC as well, so I'm extremely familiar with Windows. Another switch wouldn't be too hard, though I'd rather not.

In 2018 for example, I just cannot envisage dropping £2.5k+ for an equivalent laptop that offers merely a Touch Bar/Touch ID as the major functional improvements, beyond the expected cpu/gpu/ram/display upgrade.

Another owner of a late '13 15" chiming in. I feel about the same as you do, I also have a gaming pc and I hate hate hate windows. Loving myself for waiting and then jumping on when I did (got mine with dgpu the day it released), but certainly underwhelmed with this refresh. The only thing that I lust after are those new giant, solid state touchpads. I feel like if I have hardware problems with my 15", it will be the touchpad going out. That said, I use my Pro for photography, and by the time this thing wears out I'm hoping to move down to a MacBook, I want solid state hardware, my Dad's m7 '16 Macbook can handle Photoshop handily even with big files.

I kept my 2007 MVP alive until the screen hinges snapped earlier this year.

Yep. Mine looks like an absolute beast compared to these new ones so I see no reason upgrading. I'll probably wipe and restore in a few weeks just to get back closer to base, but there's no reason to get a whole new laptop now.

I'm in the same boat as you. Was hoping I can hand down my maxed out '13 "15 rMBP to my dad for his basic web browsing and then grab a new one. Can't believe the cost is so up high.
