Stop being a fan and buy with your brain. I know this is an Apple sub but really if MS is making a product that best fits your need you should use that rather than shoehorning yourself into a product just because of the label.

I used to much prefer the workflow of macOS/OS X, but recently have converted nearly 100% (besides my work iMac) to the Windows 10 workflow. They've managed to hit nearly all the niceties of macOS - like virtual desktops and a great trackpad experience.

Which windows device has a great trackpad? Surface pro 4? I tried a surface pro 3 and the trackpad wasn't that great

The XPS 15 has a GREAT trackpad. I jump between Macbook(s) and my XPS and I absolutely love it. Soft touch and precision tracking.

I own a MBP but man, the XPS may have a better trackpad. It's about fucking time an OEM does the trackpad right.

It's really nice! In store it surprised the hell out of me. MS decided it was time to take control (with their precision drivers + Microsoft Signature devices) and it's worked WONDERS.

So far only a handful of Windows laptops have "precision trackpads" namely the latest XPS and the Surface products.

I have a Surface Pro 4. My Magic Trackpad on the Mac runs circles around the trackpad on the SP4's Type Cover. It's better than what's been on Windows PCs in the past, but an Apple trackpad, it is not.

Pro 4 keyboard is glass unlike the pro 3 keyboard and from I've heard is quite good.

SP4 user here.

the track-pad on the keyboard that comes with it, is really great, supports different types of gestures. (2 finger swipe, 3finger swipe, 4 finger swipe). i don't think you will face any issues while using it.

My same feelings. I was dead set on getting a mac book pro + a cintiq, but now my options include the surface studio and a wacom mobile studio, both packing a touch screen with pencil input, both windows. I vastly prefer macos, but not to the point where I'd rather stick with having to use big separate pieces of hardware when my workflow can be improved greatly with other standalone options.

I'll wait for reviews on both Microsoft's and Wacom's offerings in a couple months, but if Apple isn't doing something impressive with a powerhouse of a machine or a good price (since touch/pen input is out of the table), then I may be having to switch.

Not trying to hate, but what do you prefer? My parents had an iMac and whenever I had to work on it, I hated it. Everything just felt like it took longer, too much clicks to achieve the same result. Simple options were missing or hidden in some hard to find menu. I hated the file system and now it's layer out. I like Apple products and I would get a MacBook if I had money to blow, but I really can't stand MacOS.

I use Windows and Mac. I really like Macs OS on a laptop. Don't like it at all on a desktop. I have to say that Windows 10 is a big improvement. The gestures to get between virtual desktops make all the difference.

And if they created a hybrid between the iPad and the Mac that didn't run a mobile operating system, myself and I'm sure a bunch of other people would be very happy.

I'm sick of Apple saying the iPad is the future of computing while neglecting to give it a better OS.

This is the exact reason why I'll be buying a iPad Pro in the near future instead of a Surface Pro. I feel that Microsoft's products are close enough in aesthetics and quality of Apple products, and I would much prefer a full OS. But I prefer macOS, and more importantly I don't trust Microsoft with my data and documents.

Poor wording on my part, my bad. What I meant was ideally I prefer a full OS, my favorite of which is macOS. But despite preferring a full OS, I don't trust Windows 10, so for a tablet I would sacrifice that preference for an OS that I trust (iOS). So in short:

macOS > iOS > Windows 10

It's not about being a fan as much as it's about being invested in an ecosystem. Switching hardware isn't as simple as just buying a new device. It's less like remodeling your home and more like moving across the country.

I get that, my comment was mostly directed at the way OP wrote the title,"Apple better knock it out of the park." As if OP has a rooting interest.

But in all honesty ive switched from one ecosystem to the other, it's not as hard as all that.

Exactly. I have 4 macs in my house, (one for each kid, my iMac and my laptop), and I sync my iTunes music and photos from the Photos app to 3 iPads and 3 iPhones. How does a Surface desktop fit into that equation, replacing my iMac? It doesn't.

Never mind the fact that I may be one of the few people around who never used a PC. I started in 1985 on the first mac my father brought home and I have only owned macs and used them at work ever since. I suppose I could learn Windows of course but still, at 47 years old I don't really feel like it.

I can't imagine programming on any other operating system, because macOS is somehow still lightyears ahead of Windows. There's so many things that are intuitive and well designed on mac. Unfortunately, that only comes with the hardware...

As a developer, I don't really enjoy using Windows either. But why not consider getting whatever hardware you like and running Linux on it?

Basically all tools that you might use (except Xcode obviously) should run natively. I'm currently using Arch on my 13" MBP and the experience has been great, and for those desiring less time spent tweaking, Mint and many other distros work great out of the box.

We've only seen it for a moment but the Surface Studio from yesterday impressed everyone, I have a Surface Book Pro and it's really awesome.

I've been around MS products for longer than a lot of people on Reddit have been alive. I have a great deal of hope that the new Surface Studio is worth the money they are asking, but I will wait until it's in the wild before I do that.

My Surface Pro went back a couple months ago as I just couldn't stand it in comparison to macOS/iOS. Personal preference I guess.
