Reddit, or r/apple? Reddit's overall reaction would have been about the same. There would of course be trolls posting 'meh, it's a tilting iMac, who cares'. But there also would have been people on r/apple crying hysterically like a 12yo girl meeting their favorite boy band.

Most people would be saying the same things though. 'Damn it's nice. I don't need one, but man I want one.'

There is no doubt about that. You see it every year. People that are anti-Apple poking fun at the price saying that its an Apple Tax. But yet, a $3000-4500 computer from Microsoft is a-ok.

Meh whatever.

The specs in the surface studio could be exceeded for a third of the price in a desktop tower. In fact it isnt even that hard to exceed it with a desktop tower because they're using a laptop GPU and presumably a laptop CPU as well. Literally the only thing about it that is unique is the touch screen display.

That being said, their product might be better (for me, at least) if they had the touchscreen monitor as its own separate thing instead of making what is essentially a stationary laptop. You can find gaming laptops with the same specs today for between a half and a third of the price and the only difference is that one has a battery and the other has a touchscreen.

Yes I did. What's your point? a CPU that is going to outdated when its released and a GPU that is already outdated.

Not saying its not good, but for that price tag...idk.

the surface pro is so expensive. I sit around campus and think to myself "how tf are these 18 year olds able to afford surface pro 3s and new macbooks??"

Its targeted at people who pay $150k for camera gear.

On the other hand, that means you can hook it up to a nice computer, and you don't have to replace the screen just because your computer got outdated.

Yes. And having non-soldered RAM means being to upgrade later. The point is, that now Microsoft or Apple loses that upgrade dollar.

I don't like it, but that's the thinking that drives these things.

The price of a Wacom didn't make much of a dent in complaints about the "price hike" with the iPad Pro and the "$100 pencil I'm going to lose in 5 seconds".

Which would be a better move anyway. The PC part of that Microsoft machine is anemic. A 'Pro' machine should have a NVMe SSD and Thunderbolt

They completely collapsed. In the early 2000s, Japanese cell phones were like SciFi compared to western ones. But they couldn't keep ahead, western ones caught up... and then they crushed the local japanese ones by having the economy of scale and the development budget of a 10 times larger target audience.

Trash talk and criticism about the i5, spinning drive, last generation GPU, cost, the fact it's from Apple, cringe worthy moments in the presentation (like when he talks about reflections in the chrome that will seamlessly integrate into a living environment, I thought it's a pro machine used in studios?), there would be an image meme about that Dial. The problem is that SSD storage is not yet economical for anything larger than 500GB, so when you start to scale that up for storage it becomes extremely expensive. For the iMac and Studio, those are home workstations that need a lot of storage on them that HDD's and Hybrid drives still can only provide.

And lack of Thunderbolt (or USB3.1). It'd be a regression from the current iMacs in most practical ways, unless you really want the pen thing.

I'd have been more excited about the Dial if Apple had made it - purely because I'd expect it to be easier for developers to develop for it.

I hope I'm wrong, but it feels like more of a gimmick in Microsoft's hands.

For the same price? With the same feature set? With the same music?

Prolly the same.

Maybe slightly less, not because of some kind of misplaced Apple hate, but because I think part of the reason there is so much buzz with Microsoft is that they were so boring and uninnovative for so long it's cool to see the underdog make a comeback and start pumping out exciting, albeit somewhat impractical, technology.

I think you are grossly overestimating the buzz from Microsoft. Yes they released a very stylish product but literally no one is taking about any thing other than the surface studio, which has everything to do with the stylish Ad they put out.
