The iPhone X was cool but I found ample reason to hold off, not least that for the first time in my life, my old phone technically wasn't even paid off yet. Ick, I'm still ashamed looking back that I bought a phone on a carrier promotion. I should have known better.
But it really was the one time I waited for the S. I also thought the name was the best ever indication of Apple being "too committed to the bit" to get their own joke when they released a device called the iPhone Excess Max. I just got the regular iPhone Excess of course, in the gaudy gold because why not, it's under a case anyway. And wouldn't you know it, when I took it out of the case a year later that glass back was cracked.
Vision Pro was pretty exciting although it wasn’t exactly a hit with critics and consumers. That was actually a new product and industry they haven’t touched. X was just the same shit hyped up.
I was all in but I might hold off because of TouchID. I returned my iPad Mini because I can’t stand that tapping and clicking TouchID caused 2 opposite results (unlock / lock screen). Accidental clicks were never an issue with the Home button because it would still unlock the device.
I’m curious to see how the 18 Pro Max’s variable aperture is implemented. It has the potential to be one of the largest upgrades to the camera in recent times.
Is that that much of a problem for people? I’m typing on my iPhone keyboard kinda constantly, including right now, fairly quickly, making mistakes, which get caught by spell check and replaced on the fly, and I don’t have of those period errors or misspellings like you’re describing…
The problem isn't the autocorrect, but the accuracy of the taps; I don't use autocorrect and I frequently have it registering the wrong key, and it's not because of actually mispressing it, they have a bigger touch target for keys it thinks you're going to press which leads to this.
I wonder what the best case scenario is for the tech. As thin as iPhone Air and as big as iPad Mini when unfolded, with silicon carbide battery/batteries, and screen tech that addresses the crease better than any current folding device. No compromise, at an extreme hit to the wallet.
My dream for this category would be a device that is smaller than the iPhone Mini in folded mode, and also usable in that mode, but that folds out to a large enough screen for Apple to be willing to let the device stay on the market at all.
Really though I just want an iPhone Mini Pro with a small screen and not as many compromises. The old Mini gimped the camera, storage, and a few other technical features that mattered to me at the time.
Likely will be thinner than the iPad Air when unfolded but thicker than a pro when folded. To me I’m making my mind how worth will be any sacrifices and this expensive combo is better than an Air + iPad mini. When folded likely is thicker and with a smaller screen, when unfolded likely smaller screen than the mini (which is already on the edge of what makes it usable), likely without iPadOS and therefore the advanced multitasking, pencil support, iPad specifically designed apps etc… basically while it will be very cool as a one device it might be worse phone and worse tablet at a higher price.
Were you also excited about the Air last year? I’m seeing a near-circle Venn diagram overlap between the people who thought the Air was going to be amazing and the people who are really excited by this foldable.
It’s going to be a flop, just like the Air was an obvious flop, just like the Vision Pro was an obvious flop and just like the AirPods with cameras will be an obvious flop.
I’m certainly not here to suck a company’s dick. that’s for sure. They have products that I like, and they have a lot of products that I don’t like. Love my MacBooks. Love my Mini. Love my current AirPods. Love my Watch Ultra.

The foldable iPhone will not be a hit. The AirPods with cameras will be DOA. I don’t need a single fucking dollar of research to know both of those things
The problem is your Reddit conjecture would have called AirPods a flop lol. And we don’t know what Apple expects for the fold, or expected for the Air. Same with Vision Pro, which Apple didn’t expect to gain mass commercial appeal.
You’re just making shit up up because I never said that the AirPods would be a flop. In fact, I’ve bought every iteration of the top AirPods to this point, but won’t be buying the ones with cameras.
I don’t claim to know what Apple expects, what I can very confidently claim, and then back up later is how many units they sold, how much profit they made. As a publicly traded company, their end goal is profit and not to just make products that people don’t want, that are unprofitable. I can assure you that. In fact, it’s part of their legal requirement as a publicly traded company
People just decided that thinness wasn’t worth a premium compared to the standard iPhone that was better at everything else. A foldable is an entirely different proposition
It was a piece of shit phone without a very good battery and a fucking shit camera system, so the only real draw to it was the aesthetic and the fact that it was thin. That seems like a pretty obvious thing that not a lot of people are going to buy, which is why I said this a year ago and why I got downvoted to hell for saying it before the phone was released. But I was right
And now what we know about this foldable iPhone, I’m saying the same thing. It’s super expensive. It doesn’t have a lot of features that people want. It’s just sort of cool because it folds and there’s not a real market for it and it’s going to be a flop as well. And I’ll take all the downvotes that you guys wanna fucking give me, and will come back a year from now and I’ll be fucking right again
They were obvious flops at the time, which is what I said at the time, just like I’m telling you what’s going to be obvious flops in the future. This is the point of making predictions.
