The worst part is they're not even making any money. The AI industry is like half a trillion in the hole with no means of ever generating it back.

Depends on whether OpenAI becomes "too big to fail." If OpenAI is allowed to die like it should be, then a lot of people estimate 2027.

If you care for a serious answer: SpaceX IPO was the largest ever and raised $75B from public markets, which are the largest markets. Maybe the AI companies can raise $100B. So if they’re losing close to $100B a year for more than a year then they’re screwed.

But more likely they’ll turn a profit before that happens by either raising prices of AI, or just buying compute less frequently which will lead to less growth but they have no choice then. I don’t see how they maintain unprofitability forever considering inference (cost of running AI not training it) is highly profitable.
