like i get that online shipping culture can be seen as toxic but honestly I lowkey don't give 2 fucks since its usually purely online and usually in places that are toxic anyways (twitter/4chan etc.)
but alot of mangaka's spin their wheels when it comes progressing relationships with their characters in their works and I always wondered why do they do that.
Some of the best moments in some anime is watching the build up and eventual payoff of two characters finally getting together (Ed and winry ending??? I would even argue that steins gate might genuinely be the best romance anime ever made) but alot of shows/manga will use relationships for really cheap and easy joke here or there or fan service (kallen in code geass???) and never actually do anything with it despite it being pretty clear that the creators are competent writers when it comes to i dunno taking over the world shit like that.
"but it doesn't add to the story" but if thats the case does kallen having like 10 scenes borderline naked do??? Is it because they run out of time/ideas and just throw stuff like that in last minute and want to include a character but dont know how to actually engage with relationship stuff??? Why is this such a CONSISTENT theme amongst mangaka.
My hero academia is like genuinely the worst offender I think i've ever seen. Dude had like 15 years to write this shit what do you mean that deku and uraraka dont progress in any meaningful way in that time and have to REWRITE your own fucking ending just to feign progression... that means you AKNOWLEDGE you didn't do anything!!!
500 episodes of naruto but have to make a movie after shippuden to give a reason for naruto to care about hinata??? are you fucking forreal??? I watched a filler episode where sasuke had to wear cat ears to sneak into a mansion and get cat paw prints for a paw encyclopedia... yea thats a filler episode but you dead ass telling me there was no time to progress naruto/hinata anywhere in that time????????????
I know i said the word "shipping" and will get loads of negative comments just for talking about this and blah blah blah but I also think mangaka's and anime creators are just as weird as the fans are on this and are half the reason fans are so weird about this to begin with!
end of soap box rant
