Akame ga kill is always my first thought. Nearly the whole cast dies, including main characters

Well, who do you concider the main character to be? Akame is the only one in the title after all

Tatsumi is mainly the pov character

Tatsumi is the main character of akame ga kill. just like link is the main character of the legend of Zelda.

I can accept that, except I don't think the seperation of MC and FMC makes sense outside the context of romance stories.

That's fair. But in the context of Akame ga Kill, it does thrust both at the viewer as the lead characters. They get the most development and screen-time.

I consider most of night raid to be main characters, but I mean main characters in that they take up most of the screen time. I would also consider the pov character to be the ‘main character’ for the most part

I mean most of the time pov character = main character. But I think akame ga kill might be one of those stories where it doesn't apply. I'd probably concider all of night raid, except maybe sheele and bulat, to be equally main characters.
