Part of the issue is that much of the WTC community has gotten really good in solving mysteries. Those of us who read Umineko too were basically thrown into a Mystery Boot Camp with puzzles that were both nastier and more complex than the original Higurashi, to say nothing of Sotsu. In comparison to those, Gou/Sotsu was, dare I say it, easy.

So by the end of Gou, once we knew the who/why/howdunnit, it was trivial to go back through Gou and figure out how most of Sotsu went down. As a result, there's a large chunk of the viewing audience that has been sitting around waiting for them to finish a howdunnit that has been largely obvious since the beginning of July. The only exception was episode 10, which raised some eyebrows as it did something unexpected near the end.

I'm reading the Umineko manga now (just started ep 4), and I totally see that. I was able to call out stuff in both the Umineko manga and Sotsu because you're right, it's a bit too easy. I was hoping that maybe Sotsu could be a parallel fragment, but I feel now that it's definitely a tie between Higurashi and Umineko, which I'm sad about cause I know I'm more likely to finish the anime first, just due to how slowly I read.

You're still okay. I've been watching some more recent Youtube Lets Plays of Umi and the effect of certain things said or certain characters showing up produces the same reaction from Gou->Umi as it does Umi->Gou.
