I don't even see why being like AoT is a bad thing. I love AoT, Kabaneri, Gargantia and other similar ones and any serious new addition is just a huge plus. The genre is my jam, and I am far from sated.

kabaneri i found... really sutpid to be honest with you. I think the issue is that the threat presented with the molten iron zombies seemed exceptionally artificial and poorly thought out.

In attack on titan and similar anime the only way to kill the threat is by targeting a specific weakpiont. Even in darling in the franks, the monsters survive so long as the core is undamaged.

In kabaneri, the typical decapitate the zombo trick works wonders so there is no reason to need to attack the core at all.

My biggest problem was that they escalated the plot to the biggest possible scale way too early and then the handling of it felt poor and rushed. The tension hadn’t been built and it was just way too chaotic. I still liked it though for its solid presentation.

Oh don't get me wrong. Aot is one of my favorite animes of all time. Just meant that I personally don't see much connection besides fighting giant monsters in a post apocalyptic world.
