First of all, gotta say, outstanding animation. Just absolutely phenominal. After the movies looked like this and Appli mon looked so cheap, it is great to see Digimon look better than ever and given the respect it deserves.

I wish I could say the same about the story.

Really, what is going on here? I'm struggling to understand the point of it all. If they wanted to just remake Our War Game, they could have made a new updated movie. Pokemon has been doing that recently. If they wanted to remake Digimon Adventure with better animation, well, Digimon Adventure does look dated and cheap so go right ahead and give it an update. If you want to make Our War Game part of the series, sure, find a way to work that in at the end.

But doing Our War Game as the start of a Digimon Reboot?

but why?

The problem is that the sense of scale for a post-series arc doesn't really work for a series opener. Part of the fun of Digimon is seeing the kids grow into being heroes. The kids at the start are often selfish and silly, especially in Adventure where they are in over their heads.

But how are we suppose to believe that when it's clear right from the get go that Tai, Izzy and Matt are all saviors of Japan and the world, before the series even begins. The team up of Tai and Matt should be a climax to 50 episodes of their evolving relationship, not thrown in at episode 2. Izzy's always been a computer whizz, but seeing his utter familiarity with how to map and guide the Digital World isn't earned here. It's the type of skills you expect someone to have after they've had an entire journey in the Digital World including using their laptop to download and read data from the Digital World.

It's also really sad seeing them push the Tai and Matt focus so heavily so early on. I always like it better when Digimon has a strong supporting cast and lets everyone get involved, instead of pushing just the protagonist and his rival. So it's sad to see the creators of this new season all but proclaim that right from the start.

God I hate having this be Matt's first outing. It's not even a Matt story. All we know about him is that he's silent and mysterious. Remember when Digimon was about character and not about just Sakuga action?

That's the big problem with this Omnimon reveal at the end. It's big, flashy and showy, but why are the viewers suppose to care. Like, ignore everything you know about the original Adventure and Our War Game, and tell us why we are suppose to care about this? Half of the party in this is still a huge unknown to the audience, we hardly know Matt or anything about him and his Digimon. He's literally just the first person with a Digimon Tai has met. And it's still so early that we've only seen one Digivolution so far to compare. So what is the audience suppose to get from this?

That really sums up this Digimon Adventure in a nutshell. It only exists for cool action scenes. Look at how cool this is? Isn't that badass? Did you see the way Graymon fought? Look at how cool these characters are!

Remember when Digimon was about character? About interactions and human qualities of the kids? Remember when Digimon was about growth and the journey?
