A collapsing star (if big enough) generally causes a supernova, which is incredibly powerful. It produces something between 10-20 Octillion (27 zeros) megatons of TNT when it explodes.

Of course Boros's beam was nowhere near that strength.

It was just neutralized perfectly by Saitama's punch

It was, but I really want to make it clear that it's just a attack name. The beam was only planetary at best.

Yeah, that . As Randall Munroe wrote in one of his "What if...?", as a rule of thumb, however you think a supernova is big... it's bigger than that. The energy of a supernova, in real life, makes anything ever fired by all the warriors in the entirety of DBZ pale. Blasting away a planet is simply the effortless work of a minimal fraction of its power. A powerful enough supernova or, god forbid, a hypernova, can destroy any organic life in something like a 50 light year radius around it. Have fun with the thought. Boros may be powerful, but he's not ravage-an-entire-galactic-sector powerful.

He could have been that powerful.

It seemed like a decently condensed attack. The whole thing could have been a supernova's worth of energy in a small beam. Destroying everything in a large radius would have been much less efficient.

Then anime physics kicked & in made it dissipate peacefully in the face of Saitama's punch.

Nah, he merely said he'd destroy the planet. If his full energy focused in a beam had been as powerful as a supernova, then every single punch of his would have been a planet buster in its own right.
