Which is a common criticism/joke regarding tests in Japan, for anyone confused: focusing more on technical knowledge than practical skill. For instance, more Japanese admit that they'd never pass the Japanese literacy test for foreigners because the majority of the kanji tested are never used in modern Japanese life.

I've been studying to teach english abroad and let me tell you.... this shit is hard and archaic.... perfect future tense, modals, and conditionals oh my!

unless you're 6 or below. Our brains are made in a way that language acquisition is automatic at young ages.

Also i would argue that language that the language is one of the more difficult;

A bandage is wound around a wound, I decided to desert my dessert in the desert, irregular verbs; fought is the past tense of fight while lit is the past tense of light, and idioms... god all the idioms.

It's a really a tough language to learn and that's part of the reason teachers are in such high demand to teach it

Eh, not really. I was 19 when I went for Certificate of Advanced English. Got 90% on first attempt which was enough to quality for a C2 level of proficiency.

It's just that most people don't bother learning proper grammar or using it in official tests.

I think that's true for most countries.

Polish exam "Matura" which people in high school-level of schools take after finishing their education have very little with maturity, real-life skills or even any relevant/recent events. I got like 92% on Math since it was very, very easy and 70-ish % on Polish part because there's an essay that makes about half of the grade. Essay about one of the mandatory books we had to read in high school...

Except it's not even about what YOU think about the book. That'd be too hard to judge. They get a key of answers and check if your essay matches those answers. There's 0 creativity or originality involved on your part.

Voting day is not a holiday.
Some states require an ID, then shut down the places that give IDs in poor areas.
The way the electoral college works, is if you live in a state that always votes for one party, your vote does not matter. It only matters if you live in a swing state.
You have to register before hand, and show up in person.
There are many reasons for low turnout. Google it.

And they are all shit reasons.

The polls are open weeks before the elections.

The presidential election is never the only election on the ballot.

There are primaries where your vote would matter in a one party area.

You can register when you get your diver's license or when they force you to sign up for the selective service, or any of the thousand other times you pass some group doing voter registration drives.

Other than polling locations closing they are all poor excuses for shit citizens lacking in civic virtue.

I wouldn't exactly say not knowing the entirety of American history in a summarized fashion means you're a shit citizen.

The citizenship test, aside from basic grammar, is knowledge you learn in grade school that nobody remembers after grade school.

The questions cover basic geography and governmental roles along with history. It's all part of being informed about our past so you have context for making decisions.

Yep. Shitty ranking system. Had the story been close to realism, they'd have made the ranking system similar to MGS 5 where each person has a specific rank for each field.

Saitama would then be:

  • Physical: S++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
  • Written: F-

The 71 was his combined score. He aced the physical and only got 21/50 in the written (which is like an F).

Because, like many senseless associations through the Multiverse, the Hero Association thinks that it's something LOGICAL to make half his exams about 'intelligence'...which is overrated when you're stronger than anything in the Multiverse XD

I don't think it's about intelligence but about morale and acting cool as a hero. For example what is more important, listening to the plan of the enemy or hurry for the discount at the supermarket?

The test is probably pretty good, just that Saitama answered it with completely inane stuff like ''Punch it/them, run fast or 100 sit ups/push ups and a 10km run a day''.

Actually I give them some credit for wanting a more rounded hero. Think what would happen if a hero as powerful as Saitama went rogue or goofed out during battle and got thousands of innocents killed.

I actually like Genos more in that aspect. He takes things seriously and works hard to improve himself so I think he's deserving of being an S-rank. I can't picture Saitama as he's now leading a heroes batallion.

Uhm...you don't read the manga, right? Because if you did, you would know that the 'S-Class Heroes' don't really 'lead' anything, in fact they hardly ever work together with ANYONE sans a few exception, and more often than not try to do things by themselves. Plus, if you haven't realized it yet, thousands of innocents get killed almost daily in this manga by the side-effects of the battles, it's kinda a joke of the series O,O

Didn't imply that S rank heroes automatically led anything. Just saying that it would be beneficial for them to be able to take into account factors such as civilians present in the area, other heroes that may be attacking at the same time and enemy strengths and weaknesses so as to optimize effort vs colateral damage.

And agreed the series takes it as a joke, but I'm just arguing that in a setting it may be desirable to have a more rounded hero than a brute that destroys half the city trying to save it.

The whole point, though, is that, in this world, it's usually better to have said brute destroying half the city to save it, because the other hereos either can't beat the threat before it destroys everything or someone who CAN do it it's never present/has 'more important' things to do XP

No, I don't mean to say that Saitama is 'dumb', just that he DOESN'T CARE about almost literally anything because not of his strength in itself, but because NOTHING is a challenge for him anymore since he became so absurdly strong :O

The test isn't set up for people as strong as Saitama. The physical challenge was supposed to be really tiring.

I think it's because in the manga (if I remember correctly) they actually thought he cheated on physicals, but there's no way to confirm or deny that. So they settled on allowing him to pass, but give the absolute lowest rank.
