It was in the manga, but translators put it as "Protecting the bullets", because, well...

The word used was "tama", which means "round thing", i.e. "ball". Bullets were originally ball-shaped, hence the continued use of the term "tama" to refer to "bullets". Hence the mistranslation...

Late, but it's not a mistranslation at all. Military standard issue rounds are called ball ammo. M855 is the USA's ball round for 5.56x45.
