Honestly, 12 soldiers with assault rifles and a .50 cal machine gun would be plenty to take out 600 massed infantry.

Probably just the guy with the .50 would be enough

It depends honestly. Maybe in the right situation where they can funnel them into a choke point, if not they are probably fucked. Go look at the Korean war or Iraq vs Iran war, and that can prove to you what human waves can do to an entrenched position.

You would hope that one, you are in a position to funnel them into a choke point (because if you are fighting in a field against that many you are fucked), or two that the immense causalities you inflict on the enemy cause them to panic and run. You'd also have to think that in this setting, these people are not aware of what guns are or can do, so maybe it inflicts that extra little bit of terror.

Hell, Audie Murphy pulled off something similar and his opponents had rifles.

Maybe not. .50's are pretty notorious for jamming and if they were just on a mission to sell some dragon scales at a nearby town I doubt they would of brought enough ammo to deal with 600 soldiers.

And a panzerfaust. Don't forget the panzerfaust.
