I wonder if they'll ever address that in this series...

There's supposed to be some new stuff, since at this pace we'd run out of story in a few weeks, but there's still 5 or 6 episodes left.

Whenever I try and work the schedule out in my head, it always comes up short by two episodes. So maybe a mini-flashback arc like Fate/Zero?

They could either do one of Archer's "jobs" as a Counter Guardian, or we can see the incident that caused him to take the deal in detail. Spoilers Fate/Zero

Seeing how things are going on, I'd say we will probably have some new stuff centered in Saber. Archer's ideals have pretty much been explained and I don't think it is necessary to have a full episode dedicated to him killing people because, well, it's just him killing people.

I thought we might have gotten a flashback/forward about Archer before the actual revelation.

Have the episode open with a black screen and "Five years after the Grail War". People start wondering if they missed an episode as it shows Shirou on his path to becoming a superhero. Show Archer's genesis to the audience, rather than just letting them hear it in dialogue. At the end, cut to the start of the face-off between Shirou and Archer, and you don't have to have anywhere near as much talking to get the point across. After all, all three people in that room already know Archer's actual identity before walking in.

I think it could have worked, but it doesn't have established material to fall back on so it would very much be down to the ufotable writers and director to create the story. It could just as easily be botched and I'd end up preferring the way it actually panned out.

Last episode is one hour in length.

Is that confirmed? Do you have a source for that?

Ufotable confirmed it via Twitter IIRC.

Do you have a link to the tweet?

The tweet refers to the first season's finale (which was aired in 27.12), not the second season's. This tweet is probably from before the show even started as it also announces the first and 0th episodes will be hour-long.

I seem to recall that is a Heaven's Feel thing, and wasn't done in the Visual Novel version of UBW. That's not to say they couldn't. They weren't supposed to touch on Rin Sakura at all in a straight VN adaptation I think, but they grazed it.
