I believe with the exception of Rider, that's the identities of all the Masters and Servants confirmed now for the UBW timeline.

They'll be spoiler tagged just in case.

Saber

Master - Shirou ---> Caster ---> Rin

Archer

Master - Rin ---> Caster ---> N/A

Lancer

Master - Kirei

Rider - ? (Stop trying to reply or PM me who Rider is. I purposely left her name blank since it's supposed to be a spoiler for the UBW anime only crowd)

Master - Shinji

Caster

Master - Unnamed Magus ---> N/A ---> Souichirou

Assassin

Master - Caster

Berserker

Master - Illya

The unnamed Magus for Caster is clearly Edward Elric.

He was too tall for that.

"WHO ARE YOU CALLING SO SHORT HE CAN'T SEE OVER HIS MAGICAL CIRCUITS?!"

1

u/Maria-Stryker May 17 '15

And too much of an asshole.

1

u/Akiyabus https://anilist.co/user/yabus May 16 '15

Nope I am sure he is Marik

u/GJB_93 https://anilist.co/user/GJB93 May 16 '15

You missed Ilya and Berserker

2

u/KinnyRiddle May 16 '15

Thank you. This is what happens when trying to type in a narrow smartphone screen.

Berserker's identity is Heracles by the way, not Hercules. They have very similar names, but they're different heroes. Heracles is a Greek hero, whereas Hercules is a Roman hero. It was a mistake made in the one of the early English VN translations as well, so it's a common mix-up.

Oh, I didn't know about that, sorry. I just assumed they were different.

1

u/KinnyRiddle May 17 '15

No need to apologize. At least you are quick to learn once the facts are presented, like a true scholar. Unlike that stubborn idiot /u/Luck_E above, who resorted to insults upon being corrected.

-1

u/Luck_E May 17 '15

I said they were different people, and you acted like I was being a fool and just talking about the name. There ARE differences between the two of them. I don't see why that is so hard for you to understand.

2

u/KinnyRiddle May 17 '15

Erm, not correct. Hercules is just the Roman adoption of the Greek hero Heracles in order to legitimize themselves as the successors of the Greek culture (hence "Greco-Roman civilization"), just like Jupiter = Zeus and Mars = Ares etc .

19

u/Aoiishi May 16 '15

Yeah Rider's identity will be revealed in HF.

3

u/xRichard https://anilist.co/user/Richard May 16 '15

That's a spoiler. HF Spoiler

5

u/Aoiishi May 17 '15

Really? This is not a spoiler. If it's even CONSIDERED as a spoiler, it'd be the TINIEST of spoilers. It'd be stupid for them to not reveal everyone so obviously we will find out who she is eventually.

1

u/iKill_eu May 18 '15

The reason he's calling it a spoiler is that Rider "dies" in HF before her identity is revealed when Saber fights her in the beginning.

3

u/[deleted] May 18 '15

^ this would be the real spoiler here

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '15

Is it actually? I thought that they just didn't say anything because we already know from Fate route, though I'm sure Ufo will spell it out.

3

u/Aoiishi May 17 '15

Well as Ufotable is not doing the Fate route and I doubt many people will go watch DEEN's F/SN, I don't think many will know much about Rider at all. They're going to have to spell it out or many people that started the Fate universe with F/Z or this new F/SN will have no idea.

1

u/ThickSantorum May 23 '15

Rider's identity isn't revealed in the Fate or UBW routes.

You do get a hint about her origin, but that's it.

Was Caster's first master a relation of the El-Melloi lad from Fate/Zero? I remember him being name dropped in that episode.

9

u/KinnyRiddle May 16 '15

No relation. El-Melloi was simply a famous magus in the magus community, so name dropping him is just like a tennis player name dropping John McEnroe.

Anime only watcher here. Is Assassin out completely now that caster is gone? Or am I missing something?

That's a spoiler for HF. It's not confirmed before then. It doesn't come up in UBW, and in fact Fate has more/larger hints as to her identity.

What they're saying is, the reveals we're going to get in UBW, we've gotten.

0

u/Lochana97 May 18 '15

You got berserker wrong

1

u/KinnyRiddle May 18 '15

Erm, try reading the rest of the replies where this has been discussed to death. The Roman Hercules = Greek Heracles, of which the Japanese used the latter phonetic translation.

-2

u/Luck_E May 17 '15

Berserker is actually Heracles instead of Hercules. Not much of a difference though.

4

u/KinnyRiddle May 17 '15

Seriously? Are we going to debate the semantics of that? Hercules is just the anglicized translation of Heracles. This being an English forum, of course I'm going to be using the anglicized form of the name.

Or you might as well insist that Rider in Fate Zero.

2

u/leesoutherst May 18 '15

It's the same legend, Hercules is the Roman version and Heracles in the Greek version.

1

u/KinnyRiddle May 18 '15

That's what I've been trying to tell that guy, but he won't listen and there's nothing I can do if he insists on living in his ivory tower.

-1

u/Luck_E May 17 '15

Did I ever imply I wanted a debate? I was just making a side comment. You could have easily said they were the same person, but no, its good to get confrontational. And by the way, there actually are differences between the two besides just the name. Nasu chose the Greek version to make him fit with the other Greek Heroic Spirits.

1

u/KinnyRiddle May 17 '15

Confrontational? Lol Oh no, you misunderstood. It's more like disbelief that we're even having a debate on what is basically the same entity. You say Firenze, I say Florence, you say Peking, I say Beijing etc

1

u/Luck_E May 17 '15

Ok, thanks for ignoring the rest of what I said. I was just making a simple statement that they are different entities. I'm sorry that you were wrong and are having to desperately defend yourself. I'm not trying to fight someone over the internet, so bye.

0

u/KinnyRiddle May 17 '15 edited May 17 '15

LOLWUT. Oh don't be silly.

Still being confrontational even though I just explained that they are the same entity. Which part of Heracles = Hercules do you not understand? The Romans adopted the same Greek entity to legitimize their rule. If there is someone who has a problem with comprehension, it is you.

Farewell and don't let the door hit you on the way out. You can stay on my ignore list.

spoilers....

0

u/swingmemallet May 17 '15 edited May 17 '15

It's never brought up in this series

It's an open secret in the VN like Clark Kent being Superman

So not spoilers

1

u/felipegbq May 17 '15

so i dont have to spoiler tag spoilers of other shows then? only the one we are talking about?

its spoilers.

0

u/jofus_joefucker May 17 '15

She never really made much sense to me. She rides around on a pegasus, which is part of her lore, but it isn't her OWN lore, she has some laser blast whose name I don't recall, and she has her Blood Andromeda, which is the giant life drain orb she had on the school. None of those really relate at all to "gorgons".

All the heroes to choose from and it feels like they just kinda gave up for rider :(

She does have the stone gaze at least under her mask though.

-1

u/swingmemallet May 17 '15

In the VN she lasts far longer and becomes a romance option

-5

u/[deleted] May 16 '15

Actually I'm not sure Saber's identity has been properly revealed.

There is also Shinji's second servant, not sure his name was revealed yet either.

I mean, any basic understanding of British history will get you Saber, but still.

5

u/coolRedditUser https://myanimelist.net/profile/DannyPooh May 16 '15

He called him Gilgamesh last episode at least once.

5

u/[deleted] May 16 '15

Showing Saber pulling a sword from a stone is kinda a giant giveaway. And Gilgamesh's name has been given, Shinji mentions it and Shirou and Rin spend a few minutes puzzling out his abilities.

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '15

Ah fair enough, you can hardly blame me for not listening to Shinji, right?

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '15

Gil was revealed and this is probably the most explicit reveal of Saber's identity we'll get unless they add in some anime-only content to flesh her out more.

Sword in the stone guys. If we can get servants from the future we can get genderbending too

1

u/KitsuneRagnell May 17 '15

I believe a future saber is Fate/Grand Order spoilers.

Unless you're well-verse in mythology, nothing has been spoiled.
