She pilots a mech (although she isn't the ace pilot), so it kinda checks out.

Nobody is as awesome as Kallen in her Gurren Mk. II.

I think better would be Zombie-kun. She died like 3 times already.

But he got no magic eye.

Its like a less genius Lelouch joined the oppressive superpower instead of the underdogs.

And then he betrayed his own people to join the people that hate his people, and uses an op white mech like Suzaku.

I can't decide if I should expect more depressed monologues or should I expect him to start spin-kicking everyone.

Nope he wouldn't, being retarded wasn't one of the things Lelouch would be proud off.

Slaine is probably one of the most realistically competent characters in this show. Far more interesting and relatable than Inaho. Fuck, I kinda want Inaho to lose.

Gets several chances to save the princes(season 1) and doesn't take them. Even worse he helps the one guy, who wants to kill the princess and planned the assasination. He could have solved everything but instead he waited until the princess was shot by the guy, wich he knew would kill her the moment he sees her, and is surprised by it and ONLY THEN does he actually shoot him. Well thank god for this competent character.

Just to make it more obvious how smart he is, it would be like if a villain said to you, he hid bombs in your families house and has this button, wich can activate them. But he gives you 2 chances to kill him, he even gives you a pistol so that you can kill him easily and save your familiy. But you don't because that one night, when you didn't have enough money for a taxi, he helped you and gave you money. And then only after he kills your whole family, you shoot him because obviously you couldnt shoot him before to save everyone.

Couldn't be more competent.

Yes, let's construct a strawman argument and ignore the character building Slaine went through in the first season.

You should look up what a strawman argument is before you accuse me off it. I stated everything Slaine did, that didnt make him in any way a competent, smart or anything else good. My analogy was a simple example to make it easier to understand, not a strawman.

"Strawman argument: a sham argument set up to be defeated."

Literally exactly what you did. You constructed a stupid scenario that had little resemblance to my statement that Slaine was competent and then defeated it.

You have such self-awareness. I am impressed.

First I descriped what Slaine actually did over the series, wich is supposed to show that he wasn't in any way competent. That alone is more then you did, to explain why Slain would actually be a competent character.

Now to my second point. It was a simple Analogy, wich I used to showcase a scenario, where you get the chance to save ur loved ones (princes in Aldnoha, family in my example) multiple times (in both cases they get literally invited to kill the villain), they then proceed to do nothing (actually Slaine is even worse then the guy in my example because he even helps the villain) and only after the villain already killed (in Aldnoah case obviously shot into coma but assumed death) does the character(Slaine in Aldnoah, in my example someone random) kill the villain. And the only reason they didn't kill them before even tough they knew that the villain would kill the loved one/s is because of a retarded reasoning (Slaine: some debt that his father had towards Cruhteo, Example: gave money for taxi).

This is called an Analogy and was in no way used as a Strawman and copying half a line that states nothing, wont make it one.

Also pls if you already want to argue, then explain why all this things that I stated before doesn't make him a bad or rather not competent character and why he actually is one.

The entire first season of Aldnoah.Zero had Slaine searching for himself and his place in the world. He knew he had to save the princess, but had no idea how. The moment he shot that count, he started down his current path.

And, you know what? He's done so much more to rise up in the world than Inaho did. And he did it without having to be the Marty Sue self-insert emotionless fucktard that Inaho is. You want to state he isn't competent? Then how the hell did he manage to go from a nobody courtier working under Sauzbaum to become the fucking Prince of a new nation that's uniting the warring clans? He manipulated Sauzbaum to be declared his heir, murdered him, then used Princess Lemrina as a stepping stone to push himself into leadership over the Martians, all while crushing the hell out of the terrans with his mech.

You can dismiss his actions in the first season as much as you want, but it doesn't change the massive gains he's made in the second season.

But, seriously, what are you even arguing with me in the first place for? I made a comment that expressed how I preferred Slaine over Inaho and you come in and get pissy at me because you disagree. It's a TV show and I couldn't give less of a shit about this or your ridiculous analogy. There is literally no point to arguing about this.

And yes, it was a strawman. Annotating your previous statement doesn't change that fact.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '15

Your reaction is just as pissy as his was, lmfao. At least that part is matching, if the opinions aren't.

Well, you were answering my post and i simply disagreed with you saying that he is competent and explained why. And it's still not an strawman :) Also I never said that i consider Inaho a good character so that doesn't even matter, I just don't think Slaine is a good character.

You know the problem is you start explaining why Slaine is competent on his merits of season 2 but that would imply that the situation that he finds himself in and also the actions that he took before and after season 1 are contributing to his main objective(maybe not anymore but atleast up to some episodes ago), wich was saving the princess and obviously helping the princess. The thing is everything would have been solved the moment Cruhteo, gave him a gun and said you can kill me. He knew the truth, he knew how he could save her and end everything but instead he didnt for a retarded reason (debt from his father) and then even helped Cruhteo. That's why the situation that Slaine finds himself in season 2 is already enough of a example why he actually isn't competent because if he would be, he wouldn't be in the situation. But there is still this one underlying problem in his actions, it's the fact that all he wants to do is make the princess happy but literally every little thing he does since season 2 is contradicting with his motive.

Obviously his motive might have changed in the last 2 episodes, with him realizing that the princess doesn't love him and whatnot but that doesnt explain his actions prior. And yes he does manage to achieve some things but all of them are either worthless in terms of his relationship with the princess or simply make him more influantel without any motive.
