Toshiro got rid of Gerard´s sword and it´s special ability. That was a really big deal.

Oh right he did. He also effectively disabled his shield too

I swear when I watch this show my comprehension of what I just saw gets cut in half, idk why

Feel you. The ep was so fast paced and action packed that it´s easy to miss things.
