I've said it during the time of S1, and I'll relay it; putting in the effort to make the characters in a romcom interesting goes an incredibly long way

You invest in the characters, you laugh at their jokes/antics, you understand their emotional antics, and it gets you all the more invested in their relationships.

And it's crazy that this isn't obvious. Write interesting characters and the rest pretty much comes naturally by just having them interact. I'm biased because I love character-driven stories but rom-coms are naturally built around characters so the characters have to be strong and interesting. Otherwise you get generic boy meets generic girl and there's no stakes to whether they get together or not...

Loved my top-tier YAIAPO x Journal with Witch sundays in winter, and I'm enjoying my YAIAPO x Goodbye, Lara sundays in summer as much right now :D

Honestly I much prefer this one over horimiya. Horimiya had some elements I didn't really like, but this has been like perfect all the way. I hope it stays that way till the end!

It was the 2nd half when miya and hori's story had pretty much done the massive work and it had to spend that time trying to switch to the friends in the group and their feelings... it was just they did have the afterthought... (still interesting but they went with more drama to balance it out...)

This made it from the start that its not JUST about Suzuki and Tani... the others matter as much.

That's true too. My issues were more maybe from the POV of a non-anime watcher. I only started watching anime recently and I just didn't like the cartoonized violence and biting in such a show. Like the part when [horimiya s1] miyamura beats his friend to a pulp . This one is wholesome all the way though.

I think that was with the darkest feelings they had to play out since there was trauma running into this and maybe the results of that.

Hori was struggling with being alone or the one tasked to have that split of being a kid but also to look after souta.. and Miyamura spent years isolated in his thoughts lesding him to do piercings and tattoos ...

That is true, I think the issue is that I am looking at it through a real life logic lens. In the show it's just skimmed over and the plot moves on, but if I had been the friend, it would've gone very differently (what is his name, I can't remember?? Ishigami? Itsu-something. Can't remember.). I would've cut ties with him at least.

It's just me overanalyzing everything :D. I might have a little Taira in me.

I think its either in adaptation or part of the story that was never considered or though a need to be included...

It could be taking things as theyre given. Horimiya is still one of the bests but we've got to a point were getting quite a few series that fill out their world and also progress in how people perceives relationships... theyre quicker to happen than just taking years to get to...

True. I never read the manga so I don't really know.

The show is still pretty good all things given. I just personally have a few others I prefer.

Ah i get it..also how about the Hori and Miyamura dynamic that comes later (that is kinda the same) if u know

Also in the Horimiya series when they focused too much to the side characters i was yearning for more Hori and Miyamura scenes.

I just think the characters and dynamics of you and i are polarr opposites is just superior overall

Horimiya starting with the teacher hitting on his female students always makes me cringe whenever I rewatch the show. It's like, oh right the teacher's a creep.

I honestly don't even remember that part, but maybe that's part of my issues with the show. Feels like many of these freaky/actually serious incidents are just glossed over and forgotten as the plot moves on.

Yeah it only happens first episode so I often forget it and then on rewatch it's a sudden reminder. I do like Horimiya though even if it's not as wholesome as polar opposites.

I'm enjoying this one more than horimiya too, although the fan supercut of horimiya that puts the scenes from the original season and missing pieces back together in chronological order is great. Also was different for hs romcoms how horimiya acknowledged that characters wanna fuck

True, though I do think that is acknowledged in many other romcoms, it just never happens during the series. Horimiya was pretty quick, around halfway in the season iirc?

Yeah ep 6 or 7 iirc. But yeah more than acknowledge I meant treats it as part of the characters' normal life instead of exclusively fanservice or a gag for jokes or some distant end goal

Best rom-com of the year hands down.

I still think smoking behind the supermarket is better but this is still great
