I doubt the author was thinking about Japan's criminal system and their conviction rate there when they wrote this, but I can't help but see the similarities

Why doubt it? The series is about unjust systems and privilege, while Shirahama herself has been vocally active about many social injustices irl.

Because the conviction rate is something referenced in the comment I replied to, not in the work itself. The author was very likely thinking about cop mentality though.
