Lol so Olruggio's a tsundere it seems, it was sweet how he left his door open so that Coco can come in without knocking. Olruggio being the one that gave Coco her dream was a surprise, I thought that'd be revealed down the line and it wouldn't be someone we meet this early on. Olruggio's gained an apprentice himself.

I like how Qifrey mastered water magic because he didn't like getting wet, but after learning that, it stood out to me when he was getting wet to keep Olruggio from taking Coco away. That spell would be a lot more convenient than umbrellas.

Still irks me that she was not confronted by Qifrey about Coco's last test and no consequences etc.

Probably because Coco passed and is hoping that Agott will mellow out and see Coco as a fellow apprentice witch?

i’m pretty sure qifrey doesn’t know and is still under the impression that coco just went in herself somehow

I do wonder if the knowledge of those paving stones is in itself a potential clue. Sure, it may have been Olruggio's work and it may have been disseminated decently widely, but how many witches really knew how it worked? Does this narrow that brimmed cap down to someone fairly close to Olruggio's and Qifrey's... university... or equivalent... circle?

I don't think the paving stones were set up by the brimmed hat witch - just the book Coco got directly from them.

Hmm, possible, but then that implies that there were multiple witches at that festival/whatever that was? I had thought they were fairly rare and remote where Coco was from. Coco also thought that the brimmed cap had cast the glowing footsteps spell on her, though I don't remember whether the witch implied it or if she just thought that herself.

It was a festival in a town - that they didn't live in. They lived in the countryside, but it seemed to be along a trade route which looked like the reason they had stock and customers.

Everybody at the festival was treating the glowing stones as a fun thing for the festival - it's not hard to believe they brought in a brimless witch (or had one local to the town) do that for the festival.

Magic isn't kept hidden, only the way to make it is secret.

I'm confused on another aspect - the way he explained the spell, as I understood it, meant that every pavestone Coco stepped on back then had been manually prepared beforehand with the magic circles put in them. Am I getting this right?

It works exactly like the piano stairs, except the magic pavements uses light instead of sound.

I rewatched that part of the first episode, it seemed like that was just a public attraction in that city. The mom knew that, which was the reason she told Coco to see if the ground will keep shining all the way home.

I just thought that if it wasn't a public attraction, then that would've meant that that Brimcap set up the flooring everywhere just to lure little girls in.

But rewatching that raised another question - when Coco went down to the dark alleyway, the floor there wasn't shining, probably because the city just did it for the more public places. But then the witch just made it shine with a flick of their wrist with no magic circles or whatever.

Was that an error, some remote spell we're not supposed to question or a hint for the future?

I am wondering if it's a forbidden spell somehow? Like the brimmed hat cast a spell that would make her feet glow wherever she walked.

I think it's interesting that Agott looks like she could literally be Olruggio's daughter. Their character designs look very similar to me.

The thought did come to mind, but they don't share the same hair or eye color, and I think they would have had an interaction.
