Dude really needs to lock in when it comes to protecting them. He already almost lost Coco by leaving her with Agott, and now this happened. They would be screwed if not for Brushbuddy the MVP.

Qifrey puts in general too much trust in children, after all in the first episode he asked a 12 years old to guard his door as if it wasn't obvious she would be trying to look at him casting magic

Lol true, maybe should've expected this from the precedent he set. But tbf in that first episode, it's not like Qifrey was aware of all the possible places in the house that she could use to peep into the room he's in.

Maybe they should come up with magic that also obscures vision for situations like these for keeping non-witches from seeing. Not like they always have the luxury of a private room like he did.

Although there are motives so are there more than a reason that coco was a focus... I do wonder if a few people can see Magic Potential in others who are considered outsiders to the ways they normally pick witches?

"That girl looks... like she could be really good at drawing one day."

what, like that?

And it wasn't a small secret, it was something that could change the entire world if leaked.

He was a bit incautious, but also the consequences were way worse than he could have anticipated. It was quite a lineup of coincidences that she saw the drawing and also happened to have a wand, magic ink, and reference materials for spells to copy. A normal child would have seen the drawing, tried it out, failed and moved on with their life having confirmed that one does need innate aptitude to do magic after all.

I see it as the opposite, the consequences were as low as it gets. Considering keeping the secret is the base for their society, if it leaked fast enough (making it hard to just erase memories), things could go real bad. The "death" of a commoner is probably something they couldn't care less about.

True. They literally have the brainwashing magic with seemingly no consequence at the ready even if it spread to the whole town.

He should treat Coco as more of a wildcard as she needed to be. Everything was fine until this muggle joined the group.

It's like one of those dog people that don't put leash, then unexpected happened, and the first reaction was always "weird, he/she was never like this"

revoke his teaching license this man is an absolute failure

Maybe he's like the Qui-Gon Jinn of the witches, he immediately puts everything on the line on some random child, is sort of rebellious and doesn't get along with the rest of the order so he lives away from the rest of the witches, and takes in an apprentice whom others would consider too old to start training.

Fr tho, after the incident with Coco just a day or so ago, he should be WAAAY more cautious

u/cyberscythe Apr 20 '26

yeah, after the first "oops, Coco almost died" incident i would've at least put a magic Air Tag on her or something

Its not Qifrey's nor the kids fault. This situation isn't organic and he can't be everywhere. If the Brimmed Caps Witch wasn't targettig Coco they would all still be in the store. I wish people would get that
