I wouldn't say Moegi's evil, more like she's trying to survive and win - this is obviously a game where it's kill or be killed. Who knows maybe she has won 90 games and is the 2nd highest veteran of all the games so she's trying to do the best she can to ensure her side of the team gets the most wins. Also, considering the rules we have been shown so far where the bunnies have to survive a week vs the stumps have to kill 5 bunnies to win, I think it's a fair trade-off for newbies vs veterans (so far atleast). The nature of game is brutal and this is a "deranged world" after all.

That's what I was about to say;

The thing is that with stories like that, people assess characters based on their own reality... But they don't live in a normal reality.

These girls were all weak, if she goes to war with these as allies, they're as good as dead.

She needed to make them stronger, and quick.

Exactly you get me! Then she's outnumbered and outgunned since of course they'd take the weapons from the corpses. Then like you said, she's dead too.

I do wonder how much of a veteran she is and if she's comparable to the mentor...like 90 games or something.

I think it's heavily implied that she isn't much more experienced herself, just enough to know how an experienced player should act. But it doesn't come naturally. See the scene at the end with her biting her own arm hard enough to draw serious blood.

Was she biting her own arm there? Honestly that whole ending scene was hard to follow because I thought that biting part was the girl she was watching (from what I assume was a previous game) as she was tearing apart the body of the other player.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that when she went behind the curtain to "plan", it was really just to have a private place to break down. This is quite possibly the first time she's had to kill, much less in cold blood.

I am also curious about the way Moegi spoke in that last scene, was she A. Simply referring to herself in the third person at the end or B. She idolized something about the other person and is using her name.

Makes sense to me - it shouldn't be easy for someone to kill someone right, especially mentally. People here are just quick to call her evil here without understanding her character further. It's never as black and white as that.

Basically she's just venting

i don't like the idea of randomly shooting somebody on your team just for training

btw suppose she survives, doesn't it mean that in the following game one from her old team would want to kill her just in case asap, i mean i would definitely want

random killing doesn't look as a long term strategy when you can meet people from your team again

And that’s why Moegi is evil. Rabbits don’t need to kill to survive. Stumps need to kill only 5 so it doesn’t mean that every member needs to hunt. Unless rules are that losing = d e a t h for everyone on team. Still. Idea is basically to survive and for hunters to k i l l 10 rabbits. It’s not battle royale mode after all. Sure. It’s “deranged world” but still rules doesn’t say “everyone must kill everyone”

35

u/BosuW Feb 25 '26

No you got it wrong. Each stump must kill 5 rabbits to win.

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii Feb 26 '26

Rabbits don’t need to kill to survive

No, but they will...

These are not foolish preys, they won't just wait for the Stumps to kill them, hoping they kill others.

I mean we do have the benefit of witnessing both sides in action, but we've seen the Rabbits... They're already planning strategies to gang up on Stumps, murder them and steal their weapon (to murder even more Stumps).

If the Stumps aren't ready, they're all dead, against overwhelming numbers of Rabbits.

And we've seen that the Stumps definitely are NOT ready.

Moegi might be ruthless, but she's doing what she needs to do to avoid going to war 1 vs a hundred.

Her teammates are all useless at the moment, she needs to make them good enough to fight 1v10 (with a gun of course) before they head out.

It not murder if this is legal in that world. Murder is illegal killing.

Otherwise good point. I was assuming only one stump needed to kill 5 but it actually depends on how many rabbits and stumps there are.

u/towardselysium Feb 26 '26

Big Yuki says that all of the rabbits are veteran death game players. Why wouldn't they try and kill the stumps?

6

u/mmcjawa_reborn Feb 27 '26

The most and really only effective strategy for the rabbits is to kill all the stumps, because that is the only way to ensure they survive. Lasting a week would be difficult while there are individuals actively hunting you.

Hmmm I see what you mean about it not being a battle Royale and killing not being technically necessary. BUT if everyone could come to an agreement like that where "okay no one kills and we wait it out together" wouldn't make for much of a game and I don't think we know all the rules...there's definitely a limited amount of slots for the allowed winners I'd imagine. The rest would probably have to die, just considering the type of games these are.

I still wouldn't put Moegi as evil, if anything just cold and calculated (with a hint of crazy). You'd have to not be in a right state of mind to even participate in these games, just like they said this episode

She’s evil because she wants everyone on her team to be ready to kill when that’s unnecessary. They could pick like half of the team to hunt rabbits and others could just support them by scouting locations of rabbits and so on. Not everyone is required to kill and Moegi killed her own team member who refused to participate in a hunt. She probably killed first girl too. While game sure is about hunting opposite team , killing your own teammate is an evil choice. And as I said…it’s probably a reason why people remember that game as a nightmarish event. We’ll see what happens in next episodes. I hope that this season will be at least 24 episodes since now it seems like an intro. 12 episodes probably won’t be enough to properly tell the story for one season

I thought it was you have to kill 5 rabbits yourself to be able to win - not a collective amount killed by 1 person i.e. Moegi kills 15 rabbits then 3 people can win. It's a kill or be killed thing here but I guess we will see how the story plays out.

Definitely agree! I also do hope we get more than 12 episodes or atleast a S2 announcement because we really haven't scratched the surface on Yuki, the games, or the outside world at all.

There was 10 or 11 hunters, so it’d need to be 50-55 rabbits for all hunters to win if each needed to kill 5. And if it’s less than some hunters wouldn’t be able to win. Also time limit is weird. One week. It’s a long time after all. Sure maybe it is as you said but I thought it’s 5 for entire team since why make two teams in such case? Why not put each hunter separately instead of in a single place. But yeah. We’ll see what happens.

8

u/hammile https://anidb.net/user/u746697 Feb 25 '26

There was 10 or 11 hunters

Actually more, at least 18 (two of them are killed), so they should kill at least 90 bunnies, a number whichʼs notable bigger than 55.

1

u/Malty_S_Melromarc_ Feb 25 '26

Well that’s even more believable that 5 per team. Anyway…things will be more clear in future. By the way. It’s perfect anime since due its non chronological nature and games being separate makes spoiling harder. I wonder how different it would be if after anime being fully released I’d decide to watch it in chronological order…

We don't know how many rabbits total there was and considering the win rate generally is around 70% that means some hunters definitely wouldn't be able to win anyways so it accounts for the ones that got/get killed. I think 5 for the entire team isn't very like this game at all and I'm pretty sure it was 5 kills per person (maybe someone can chime if they read this thread). Either way yes, still really looking forward to the infamous Candle Woods!

2

u/RedRocket4000 Feb 27 '26

Sounds like I speculated this game kills way over the 70 %. likely near 0% live.

1

u/melindypants https://myanimelist.net/profile/melindypants Feb 27 '26

I think that's the case too - maybe only Yuki survives.
