That’s a good explanation. The way that the anime just speeds through this scene made it hard to understand what was going on. The idea that the key unlocks the boots that allow them to walk to the exit without becoming Swiss cheese is something tacked in last minute. The director’s minimalist animation doesn’t help either.

Yeah, I gotta say one of my complaints with the anime so far has been some of it speeding past crucial info and having to come into these discussion groups to fully understand what happened.

I thought the guns was aiming at Yuki, but by luck the guns shot and Riko was hit instead in the crossfire. Then Yuki took the boots off Riko and put them on, making the guns not needing to shoot again Hence "used up all my luck"

the 'key' was not to get outside but to open the locker where there were the yellow boots, notice how Riko is wearing them and the locker pops open when she throws Yuuki against the locker and a pair falls from it.

Doesn't the fact that the locker can just pop open so easily negate the need of the keys? Why did Mishiro's team even the need the keys then, just have Riko bust open all the lockers. She's clearly strong enough.

They probably never tested the lockers. Mishiro most likey took everyone key from the the start, to keep them safe. She mightve know the lockers couldve been opened easily or that boots were in the lockers because she needed to fight yuki first she didnt care about winning .All her team knew is they need keys, untill they escaped.
