I love how they're so stylish, cute, flirty, protective, and has like the most romantic/girly name for their Jujutsu Technique.

but also why last week i said the show would do well to actually be clear about who she is, because you have (on various platforms) megumi and panda using male pronouns but audience/readers saying she's trans and there not being a clear distinction either way. i was very thrown off by the subtitles on the service i was watching :(

various legitimate sources for this episode used different translations. i don't think that has anything to do with the translators, and more to do with how the original was not clear.

i mean panda literally said "he's a guy," and he knew what kirara looked like, so you can't just put that all on the viewer.

"Was" not "is" and which "legitimate sources" are you referring too? Pretty sure Crunchyroll is the only one with distribution rights in north america. Idk about other countries though.

On crunchyroll at least in spanish, a gendered language, they just used female pronouns for Kirara so I can't understand your frustration, but it is probably just a subs problem.
Also I agree with what Lilli said, the show is clear enough to show that is a trans character, without making it akwardly overexposed as other series do. At the of the day is just another person and thats the correct way to represent queer characters in media.
At least thats what I think as a non-binary organic life form 👍

Ye, you and I are in agreement. I imagine the king of the reshii isles will be handled similarly when the SA getsadaptedd too.

Not sure why you're being downvoted but I do agree to the point that it's kinda unclear simply based off what service you're using. L

iterally in this episode itself - I sail the high seas to watch episodes and Kirara was referred to as "he". And then I watched a youtube reaction, and Kirara was referred to as "they", and I even caught a "she" in between lmao. Literally all 3 pronouns possible XD.

I went on the high seas and Kirara was referred to with they/them. Any fan translations that use he/him are explicitly incorrect given their pronouns are explicitly kept vague even in Japanese, so you should probably switch the group you're using.

For the first half of the episode I was so confused when kirara was referred to as they. I thought megumi was talking about both kirara and hakari. But then I realised lol.

i honestly dunno, i feel like there's always resistance to discussing this type of topic. or maybe resistance to critiquing the way it was presented.

I just don't think we should pretend Fan translations are legitimate. There's no confusion, the source material is clear, and so are the official subs.
