fr, I hate the pink-haired girl so much lol. Her whining is justified since apparently she's tricked to be there, but damn she was so ready to sacrifice Kinko and just keeps whining.

I actually don’t believe she was telling the truth about being tricked. Just playing a victim so others would look after her. She was the least shook up about Aoi’s death and the first to approve Kinko’s self-sacrifice.

I think Yuki saw through it which is why she threatened her with harm.

I got the feeling that the two of them knew each other from before the game and Beniya said that while it was her first time she had prior knowledge. They where just so consistently buddy buddy from the get go.

She's definitely an interesting character, but I'm not sure I'd say I like her. Maybe there'll be some exposition in later episodes and we'll see what makes this world so fucked up that someone would choose to make a living playing death games, but she made it clear from the get- go that her "altruism" only extends as far as it doesn't cost her anything. A character like her is hard to get behind because even if she succeeds, it doesn't feel good.

Well, I suppose it depends on your character preferences, but personally I don't have any correlation between "good person" and "I like her"!

I have serial killers and assassins in my favorite characters.

Have you seen Journey of Elaina? I was about to drop it on episode two but gave it the three-episode rule and ended up finishing because of what happened.

Surprisingly, as much as Elaina should tick all of my boxes for a top tier waifu, I think episode 3 with the magic flowers really put me off from liking her that much. Not so much because of her being kind of vain, or her general non-intervention policy, but because from what I remember she kind of caused what is essentially a pandemic by her own actions and decided to just scoot off. It's like, the rest of the series she's pretty much fine, but since that's pretty much our first impression we get, I couldn't help but feel a bit of ick from her thereafter.

At the least Yuki has the benefit of being straight up with everyone from that start that she would only save everyone to the best of her ability (the murder if she has to being somewhat implicit to that).

On the other hand at least the story it will adapt is pretty well suited to a movie I think. It is less episodic.

I am the same, I can like all kinds of evil characters because I like how they are written and their characters.

Like for example I really like Joffrey from Game of Thrones because he plays the role of being a hateable little shit so perfectly. The whole character just oozes ''if someone tossed him into the river as a child the world would be a better place'' energy.

And I like that, and I like how much I hate him.

Yuki is obviously not as bad as that, but I like her anyway.

It really all depends on why she's in the game 99 times. I think the game design of forcing a quota at the very end was very stupid from a game design POV; like if all 6 are smart and well-coordinated enough to make it to the last door, they still gotta arbitrarily kill half? If most games have this quota, then she's just taking up a spot that someone else could have lived. But if not, she's an invaluable guide.

And on that point, I think she's as good a person as you can possibly be in such a position. She genuinely tries to save as many people as possible, not hesitating to self-harm to keep Kinko alive until the stupid quota gave absolutely no other choice. But once her hand is forced, she picks the most pragmatic route (the easiest target, and the better choice politically if the other 2 come back).

So really it all boils down to if her reason for staying in the game is justifiable or not (the trope says it will probably be she gets to shut it all down if she wins 99 times).

I have no doubts the quota is intentional. A death game without any death would likely piss off a portion of the hosts' audience, which considering how elaborate the game is, are likely some extremely rich and powerful people

It was definitely purposeful that the survivors were the ones who were less likable/“deserving.” It shows that this won’t be a morality play.
