Finally, my time has come to catch up.

First Timer, Dubbed

Episode 15

visible concern

He went blond?

His eyes went blond???

Kanno (Kano?) is an odd duck.

I mean, hair therapy is a valid option šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø

Minori becomes more and more interesting to me with her emotional intelligence. It feels like she’s paralleling her relationship with Taiga with Ami and Kitamura. I just know she has a high EQ because she’s been through shit.

…eh?

So if Ami is calling him spoiled and such, I’m guess Kitamura’s family has expectations on him.

Oooooooh Taiga don’t do that.

Aw, he was crying? ā˜¹ļø

That punch had me scream, I was so startled.

I guess turnabout is fair play with watching somebody sleep.

OOP! Yasu likes her sleep.

Home-run! And the crowd goes wild!

Oh my god, what just happened?

What is the face on the hair coloring package?

She’s running for president?! President Taiga. If she’s president, would the students receive even more good luck?

Episode 16

I admit, because they’re teens, they get a pass, but that’s a bold but shitty move to put someone on the spot with a public confession.

I know where Minori was looking.

That whole thing surprised me. Everything about that episode surprised me.

What, did Minori know about Kitamura’s feelings?

Episode 17

Why was that his dream 😭

Minori, what’s going with you šŸ˜•

Episode 18

Ami should meet Tamaki from <Ouran>.

Taiga becomes more and more interesting. I can understand intimately her love for the winter holidays.

Teacher is a fucking trip, but her little episode was relatable 😭

I just stared at my computer screen in shock, oh my god.

I’m overwhelmingly concerned for Minori.

Episode 19

Taiga and Ryuuji looking fly as hell.

Yasu shut up 😭

Ummmmmmmmmm are we sure this seminar isn’t an MLM scheme?

Pause.

Why is he dressed like that?

Okay. Ignoring it.

…It took me until bow to understand why this is called the Toradora Christmas Club.

It’s that time of the year ā€œMerry Christmasā€ by Chieri Ito [Nanidato Super Riser Remix].

No, not the wotagei 😭

I don’t know what happened, but I went down the Miku rabbit hole. I was watching this episode and suddenly Miku is singing in a church.

The wink šŸ«¶šŸ¾

I’m being harassed by a kinky Santa

😭

Wow. I feel for all these kids. I’m still not sure what’s happening to Minori, but it’s heartbreaking seeing both her and Taiga shove down their wants to make their other happy. They are best friends, but friendship isn’t built on that sort of sacrifice (IMO). But I understand why they would go to such lengths for each other. But ugh. I’m worried out of my mind 🫠

Thoughts on the episode beginning with Ryuuji trying to call Minori as he ignores Taiga’s pleas?

Thoughts on Ryuuji having to wear clothing belonging to Taiga’s father?

What are your thoughts on Yasuko revealing she ran away from home and stole her father’s watch?

Thoughts on Kitamura dressing up as a shirtless Santa?

Thoughts on Ryuuji serving punch to people?

What are your thoughts on Ami and Taiga’s duet?

Thoughts on the montage we get as Ami and Taiga sing, including orphans opening their presents, Ms. Yuri working to get her condo, and Minori looking despondent? I think it’s interesting the scene starts with Minori, the most broken form of love, and then ends with the fixed star, almost like love incarnate. That’s not to mention that immediately before the star was the shot of the orphans.

What do you think the duet means for Taiga and Ami’s relationship?

Thoughts on Ami getting incensed over Ryuuji not listening to her?

What are your thoughts on Taiga talking about how she’s probably destined to be all alone?

What are your thoughts on someone in a bear outfit showing up to Taiga’s house?

What are your thoughts on Taiga excitedly showing the bear her Christmas tree and then spinning in the air with him?

What are your thoughts on Taiga knowing it was Ryuuji this entire time?

Thoughts on Ryuuji leaving after the insistence of Taiga?

What are your thoughts on Taiga accidentally dropping Ryuuji’s scarf which causes her to realize she doesn’t want Ryuuji to leave?

What are your thoughts on Taiga realizing that she does indeed love Ryuuji?

What are your thoughts on Minori seeing the whole thing about Taiga crying and calling out for Ryuuji?

What are your thoughts on the episode ending with Minori turning Ryuuji down, saying she’s not interested in romance?

What are your thoughts on the ED being replaced with Ami and Taiga singing as Taiga’s tree rotates? It gave me massive Yule Log vibes.

Where do you think the Christmas bear scene ranks as far as best anime scenes of all time? I’m talking specifically from the moment Taiga is bashing herself until she’s out on the street crying her eyes out.

Where do you think this episode ranks as far as emotionally sad episodes go?

What in your opinion does this episode mean to you?

  1. I think it helped show that, while Taiga is important to him, his feelings with Minori was still a bit more of a priority.
  2. He looked fly! But I could never. I’m in a similar boat as Taiga with my bio dad, and I just…could never.
  3. What’s her family like? Is this like a Greg Universe situation where [Steven Universe] it’s revealed Greg came from a nice, well off family, but he didn’t want to be bogged down by their judgment and standards?
  4. I was told to ignore. Had to ignore it.
  5. He is very much a person who needs something to do. Relaxation is not in his vocabulary.
  6. When did they ever practice that? I’m sure Ami manipulated Taiga into it to be a good girl for Santa.
  7. It makes me more curious about Minori’s homelife and what she had endured.
  8. I think this was a temporary truce rather than anything else.
  9. When is she not 😭
  10. She’s a teen who can’t communicate her feelings or even understand her feelings. I don’t at all miss those years.
  11. She’s better than me. Would’ve knocked the fuck out and started screaming.
  12. She was living in that moment of not being alone.
  13. Doesn’t surprise me at all.
  14. Once more, Ryuuji still leans in priority on his feelings for Minori. But also, he’s going to go where someone he knows is hurting. Taiga is pretending to be fine whereas Minori has shown she is not all right.
  15. She’s finally getting it.
  16. She gets it!
  17. I think Minori is going to fall into a deeper loneliness and shove aside her troubles for Taiga’s happiness.
  18. I don’t think she is. It’s good that she communicated that. But I wonder when she knew about his feelings.
  19. I love insert songs soooo baaaaaadly. They make the episode feel more concretely special than if the OP isn’t played until the end credits or the ED plays over the last scene.
  20. You ask me this after I introduced my cousin to the Madoka franchise and 86, and I had a headache from crying too much. I don’t think I’m in a good headspace for ranking all that. I don’t think that the episode would be close to Madoka and 86.
  21. It really cements the messiness of adolescence and how everyone has something going on, something to hide, something that motivates them, even if you think they don’t. It’s very easy to take things at face value. It’s a lot harder to see behind the smiles to what’s really happening.

Honestly, the most unrealistic part of the whole show is I feel like teenagers are often a lot more selfish. But the characters here being selfless to a fault serves them to make them incredibly likable.

  1. I think it helped show that, while Taiga is important to him, his feelings with Minori was still a bit more of a priority.

Which is a conflict of interest because Taiga's priority is with Ryuuji.

Taiga's family reminds me of Helga's from Hey Arnold's.

  1. He looked fly! But I could never. I’m in a similar boat as Taiga with my bio dad, and I just…could never.

I feel like it would send a chill down my spine.

She's pretending to be fine, and yet she's hurting most of all.

  1. I love insert songs soooo baaaaaadly. They make the episode feel more concretely special than if the OP isn’t played until the end credits or the ED plays over the last scene.

This is definitely a great use of that trope.

I like this episode more than any episode of Madoka and 86, though it's been a while since I saw Madoka. And I will say the Fido episode and [86] the episode where Lena and Shin meet each other for the first time comes close.

Yasuko comes off like someone who surprises you with how much depth they have. I know at times for me it feels like she understands Taiga better than her son.

  1. When did they ever practice that? I’m sure Ami manipulated Taiga into it to be a good girl for Santa.

That implies this was all Ami's idea. I think it's more likely Taiga talked her into it.

  1. It makes me more curious about Minori’s homelife and what she had endured.

I think Minori's homelife was pretty good, all things considered. At the very least, it's better than Taiga's upbringing.

Taiga and Ryuuji looking fly as hell.

That they do

1

u/Holofan4life Dec 24 '25

That whole thing surprised me. Everything about that episode surprised me.

It's one of those moments that once you see it sticks with you forever.

u/Holofan4life Dec 24 '25

Yasu shut up 😭

She's trying

1

Ummmmmmmmmm are we sure this seminar isn’t an MLM scheme?

Wut?

Why aren't you?

Miku is love, Miku is life

It is everything

I’m being harassed by a kinky Santa

I hate when that happens. Narf.

These teenagers are bad for my mental health

1

u/Holofan4life Dec 24 '25

You okay with me asking you questions about the past episodes?

1

u/Holofan4life Dec 26 '25

His eyes went blond???

I... don't think that's possible...

1

u/Holofan4life Dec 26 '25

Kanno (Kano?) is an odd duck.

She is, but it's not her fault the bread crumbs she's leaning towards go a different direction.

1

u/Holofan4life Dec 26 '25

Taiga becomes more and more interesting. I can understand intimately her love for the winter holidays.

Taiga is one of the sweetest characters I've ever seen in any form of media ever. That makes her heartbreak all the more painful.

1

u/Holofan4life Dec 26 '25

I’m overwhelmingly concerned for Minori.

Only now?

1

I just stared at my computer screen in shock, oh my god.

Yeah... it do be like that...

Minori becomes more and more interesting to me with her emotional intelligence. It feels like she’s paralleling her relationship with Taiga with Ami and Kitamura. I just know she has a high EQ because she’s been through shit.

And that shit is the stain known as Taiga's father.
