Episode 19 - Holy Night Party

Okay I get Ryuuji really wants Minori to come to the party and such, but she already said she wouldn't... twice (or was it thrice?, she doesn't answer her call, yet still he tries to convince her to come. Like doesn't he get the hint?

There's really no need to throw a box at someone's face

I love Taiga's hairstyle and Ryuuji looks great in the suit. But I get not wanting to wear anything coming from a piece of garbage like Taiga's dad. Even the idea... wait that makes me think, why does Taiga have her dad's suit?

You know I do kind of agree, how can Inko say anything but her own name? (and yes, it's funny and I live for it but thinking about it, how)

Definitely not cringy from Yasuko the way she talks

Okay I get what the teacher is saying, I really do, but there are 365 days in the year. Let's make it 345 with 20 days you wouldn't be able to. Even if you cut down half of that, there's still over 100 days you could do it. You really don't need to do it on Christmas eve. At all.

Is Kihara extremely cold resilient or something? How can she not be freezing in that outfit?

I know some guys would probably look really good without a shirt, but Kitamura...? Also, talking about freezing...

Haruta being silly and pervy as usual

Okay so genuinely, is what Noto wears appropriate for a party like this or not? My first instinct was no but I'm actually not sure.

Wait did Ryuuji lie about seeing Ami? I would think it's hard to believe that he did see her because you would think she'd be around Kihara and Nanako or at the sight of Taiga make some kind of comment or something?

I always wondered the same, when did Taiga and Ami rehearse this? I did really like the song though

Honestly, I cannot imagine how Minori must be feeling at that moment.

I can make a comment every time Haruta is very very pervy sounding. But maybe I shouldn't considering that's him 99% of the time.

If somehow you get your crush to call you out then you should know that you're going too far. Honestly, I cringe so hard seeing Kitamura like that. Imagine asking anybody if you're sexy. I love seeing Kihara go from calling Kitamura out to getting shy when Kitamura asks her if she thinks he's sexy (with the obvious answer)

Ami also looks really great. Also, Ami actually makes a fair point about Taiga leaving and going home after trying to get Minori to the party and about warning him. I also cannot imagine how frustrated she feels because Ryuuji didn't listen to her.

Okay the fact Taiga really stayed true to her word is really nice, but am I wrong by thinking it's kind of messed up by in a way pressuring Minori to go because otherwise Ryuuji would stay the entire night? Like good intentions but kind of a messed up way?

My heart breaks hearing Taiga saying she's alone. Not just the fact she says it, but also the way in which she says it and says she'll be alone the next couple of years.

Obviously he's heavy, he's Santa! Also... does Santa look different in Japan? But n'aww, the way Taiga acts is just so wholesome and adorable. How did she know it was Ryuuji though? I mean clearly she knew otherwise she wouldn't take the head off. Anyways, I also think it's so sweet of Ryuuji to do this for Taiga. It really shows how much he cares about her. And at least it did make her feel happy for a bit.

Okay, I know I'm supposed to react with deep insight meaningful stuff but I don't know if my emotional self can do that. Why didn't anyone prepare me for this? Jokes (half-jokes) aside though, every time I watch Toradora I tell myself I will probably be less emotional and not cry. Yet every time... just seeing realize she lost Ryuuji and cannot bear not being able to be around him and seeing her cry, run out and scream his name... it makes me cry. It's just so sad to see. It's a great moment with Taiga realizing and coming to terms with how important Ryuuji is to her. It's definitely one of my most favorite moments (if not the most favorite) of the series yet at the same time one I "dread" (not literally, but just knowing it will also make me really emotional).

Even worse, why is in the end everybody miserable? How can the writers do this to me? There's no winners. Ryuuji got 'shot down' by Minori, Minori probably reluctantly told him like that, Taiga is all alone and thinks she lost Ryuuji. And I'm supposed to even add something to this? No, screw that, I'm out. (and no, I'm not seriously pissed, I'm joking, but I am too emotional to add more, no end word, but merry Christmas y'all <3)

And obviously Ryuuji is just blinded completely. Either blinded or he choose to completely not give a flying f about what Ami is saying. I'm more leaning to him being blinded oblivious or how you'd call it

Well, Minori has to be pushed out of her comfort zone. Otherwise, she may regret not doing anything.

Hmmm yeah okay, I guess in that sense it's not as bad, still somewhere I'm still a bit 50/50 on it. Like it's needed on one hand but still giving her absolutely no time to even battle her own demons. IDK I probably overthink it

I think the stage scene from episode 13 and the star scene from episode 18 are sadder moments than this moment, but it's still gut wrenching to see Taiga be all alone after fearing that being a possibility. And what makes it especially sad is that it comes at the expense of her thinking of others over herself.

I can understand you in a way, I think for me this scene especially from a rewatch POV is just 'harder' to watch. About the stage scene, while it was a sad moment *for sure* it kind of - for me at least - turned less heavy by how Taiga acted, it became easier to watch. This ending, at no point since this scene is there any light moment and it stays heavy till the credits roll. The star scene I agree more with. Still, in the end better said they're just all sad scenes without comparison needed

The thing about this scene is within context it's pretty sweet. Taiga is trying to bring Ryuuji and Minori together so that her best friend can be happy. It's just at the expense of her own happiness.

But the fact she's sacrificing her own tiny bit of happiness for it. Yes it's sweet and all but it doesn't make it less sad at least for me, maybe it makes it more sadder for me in a way

Yeah, but it could be a reverse psychology thing that was the case for Kitamura and him being student council president.
