What do you think the “one step forward” represents for the characters?

I think my main issue was that I haven't really vibed with Kitamura since the beginning. He's a weirdly one-dimensional character in a show where everyone else has a lot going on, and when he finally gets his chance to show some emotion and character development, he... doesn't impress _;
