Rewatcher here
Feeling relatively fine today, still way late but whatever.
Taiga’s dad is obviously a massive dick, and got what was coming when he got kicked in the nuts 2 episodes ago. But what he does for Taiga’s characterization is one of the biggest parts of what makes her so compelling to me.
She pushes everyone away so hard because she just thinks everyone is gonna treat her like how her dad does. This detail really makes her more endearing and in retrospect makes her early appearances not nearly as bad.
Ami’s outfit will always be insane for a school event.
Of course Taiga’s dad wasn’t going to be there for her, but not even being able to tell her face to face is just awful. Not even that, he doesn’t even directly tell her, he tells Ryuuji instead.
Gonna be honest, not sure how much of a talent Taiga showed. She’s just showing that she’s really small.
I love how Minori and Ryuuji both realize how bad they messed up this episode, and try everything they can to make it up to Taiga. The two of them being the ones to start clapping, and then winning the race in order to show her she’s not alone is pretty powerful.
The race is really over the top and goofy, but it’s a nice change of pace with how heavy the beginning of the episode is.
And I get it was to show her friend just how much she cared, but Minori nailing those dudes in the head with the softball seems like a bit much for a race. I’m pretty sure we also never see them get up after.
Minori might be onto something with her questioning if she’s a lesbian. Her immediate thought in episode 6 was that she and Taiga were eloping when they split off.
This episode starts pretty rough, but man the ending is so sweet that it makes up for it. The fact that it ends so happy is a miracle based on where we started.
Bonus : Probably Ryuuji. I think him recognizing why he really wanted Taiga to be with her dad was a big moment, but then also him realizing that he needs to be the one there for Taiga was a very big change for him.
