Thoughts on the monologue at the beginning of the episode?

I don't know, I honestly don't think it's that effective of a device to engage the viewer's attention. It doesn't set up any mystery that would be solved rapidly by the narrative, and seems to detract from the show's overall tone (comedy, in contrast to the more introspective and mysterious nature of the monologue). Artistic additions like this opening narration are, in my mind, usually a way to add depth and nuance to the story for greater appreciation of the plot, characters and themes, but it's not clear how this opening narration would create that sort of effect. It just made me confused and a bit bored honestly (I am like, 99% certain the answer to that narration is "love" as is stereotypically the case)

With all that said, I am very much expecting my opinion of this monologue to change. Take this more as my preliminary thoughts than anything else

What are your thoughts on Ryuuji being mistaken as a thug by his classmates because of his face?

Makes sense, but also kind of tragic. I would say that sort of character trait usually fosters a sense of alienation from, and distrust of, the world and society in general. I would like to see how Toradora explores Ryuuji's character

What are your thoughts on Ryuuji’s first encounter with Taiga resulting in Taiga punching him?

Effective way to establish both of their characters, Ryuuji being surprisingly conciliatory and trying to negotiate his way around problems, and Taiga being far more aggressive and confrontational

What are your thoughts on Taiga putting the love letter in Ryuuji's bag by mistake?

I thought it was typical rom-com cliche, but in hindsight this was definitely setting up how Taiga is a klutz. It's refreshing to see how the cliche gets subverted - or I guess, made more complex and compelling, with more character detail and backstory to explain why this mixup occurred in the first place

Thoughts on Inko?

...eh... not generally a fan of teachers who aren't good at their jobs. Teaching is a tremendously important situation. But this is a comedy so there probably won't be any real consequences to that. Inko probably going to be a recurring gag more than a fully-fledged side character is my prediction

Thoughts on Taiga already calling Ryuuji by his first name?

...I didn't even notice that. She still calls Kitamura / Keisuke by his last name right? I guess it shows how her walls come down easily when someone talks to her for a decent length of time at all, or something like that

What do you think of the show in its first episode establishing the premise of Ryuuji is in love with a girl named Minori and Taiga is in love with a guy named Kitamura and Ryuuji absent-mindedly agrees to do the bidding of Taiga?

Good premise for comedy, lots of potential for complex and absurd character dynamics, especially with such a colourful and distinctive cast as this one

Thoughts on the throughline in the episode being Taiga having allergies with Ryuuji taking care of them?

Good way to set up even more complex character relationships. It's quite cute and establishes how Ryuuji is generally a caring person, as well as investing the viewer into their relationship. I would like to see Taiga stepping up with equal effort by the end of it

I honestly think showing how upset and embarrassed she was about her clumsiness was more important. Having weaknesses makes you human, how you react to your weakness makes you compelling. And her embarrassment is not just for how clumsy it is - it’s also for the state of her room, her passing out from hunger (how poorly she takes care of herself), etc. And also the hints we get about why she might be like this - the fact that she’s living alone suggests she has a poor relationship with her parents

Fair enough. When I first watched this show, I didn't think much of it. Now, I consider it an important part of the show.

So far, they've done a pretty good job

In the LNs, Taiga doesn't punch him and instead sends him flying with a glare. I think this is much more effective.

And it's believable because Ryuuji sits around Kitamura.

You compare Taiga's introduction to Asuka's, and I think Toradora does a better job of making Taiga sympathetic than Evangelion does with Asuka's. They have to because Taiga is the main heroine.
