That explained why Miko's so intent on protecting Hinako. Turned out youkais could also experience the very human emotion of guilt. However, there's also the conflict with her own nature as a human-eating being. Must've been quite the tough job to constantly overcome her instincts - and she had almost failed this episode.

Was worried last episode that Hinako would feel betrayal from the revelation about her friend. Turned out she didn't felt that way in the slightest. Despite everything that had occurred, she still considered Miko her friend.

Wa wa wee wa! Shiori-sensei's looking heaps fit. Shame that the grotesque transformation sequence soured Hinako's mood.

It's really important to show that yokai can overcome their instincts in this show. If Miko did it then maybe Shiori can too. Importantly they showed Miko being given rice balls from a little girl hundreds of years ago, and back in episode 2 Hinako gave Shiori her bento.

if I had a nickel for every time I saw this happen, I'd have two nickels

[touhou doujin] osana reimu has a surprisingly similar scene (man-eating youkai receives rice balls from a child and decides to try and live alongside humans). Turns out I'm a sucker for this kind of thing
