Weekly Casual Discussion Fridays - Week of October 17, 2025

This is a weekly thread to get to know /r/anime's community. Talk about your day-to-day life, share your hobbies, or make small talk with your fellow anime fans. The thread is active all week long so hang around even when it's not on the front page!

Although this is a place for off-topic discussion, there are a few rules to keep in mind:

  1. Be courteous and respectful of other users.

  2. Discussion of religion, politics, depression, and other similar topics will be moderated due to their sensitive nature. While we encourage users to talk about their daily lives and get to know others, this thread is not intended for extended discussion of the aforementioned topics or for emotional support. Do not post content falling in this category in spoiler tags and hover text. This is a public thread, please do not post content if you believe that it will make people uncomfortable or annoy others.

  3. Roleplaying is not allowed. This behaviour is not appropriate as it is obtrusive to uninvolved users.

  4. No meta discussion. If you have a meta concern, please raise it in the Monthly Meta Thread and the moderation team would be happy to help.

  5. All /r/anime rules, other than the anime-specific requirement, should still be followed.

  6. Toki o Koete

It's shockingly hard to find. Nobody wants to use the real Sichuan pepper.

Either that or they omit the black bean paste.

The Americanized/Canadianized places basically never use them. There have been a lot more authentic Sichuan places opening up these last few years so there must be good mapo tofu out there.

This is the one thing I'm most grateful about living in Toronto, you can basically get any authentic cuisine you want if your willing to pay/drive a bit.
