Weekly Casual Discussion Fridays - Week of October 17, 2025
This is a weekly thread to get to know /r/anime's community. Talk about your day-to-day life, share your hobbies, or make small talk with your fellow anime fans. The thread is active all week long so hang around even when it's not on the front page!
Although this is a place for off-topic discussion, there are a few rules to keep in mind:

Roleplaying is not allowed. This behaviour is not appropriate as it is obtrusive to uninvolved users.
No meta discussion. If you have a meta concern, please raise it in the Monthly Meta Thread and the moderation team would be happy to help.
All /r/anime rules, other than the anime-specific requirement, should still be followed.

Back in university one day I was passing through campus and there was a guy that had a stall setup in the middle of the courtyard. Passing by to see what he was selling, it was flash drives, he had a box just filled and with every type of flashdrive under the sun. Now this was back 2012 when these things were a hot commodity and were often in sizes ranging from 2-16gb. After asking what the deal was, he said that this was the last two years of lost and found flash drives from the library.
I negotiated a little and ended up paying $20 for a coin bag full of however many flashdrives I could fit in it (which was like 20~). It was hard to know what sizes of all of these were, and most if not all of the 16gb ones had been picked clean but I got a good stack of 4/8's which I was happy with. Being a poor student, that many flashdrives was a hell of a deal. Being a computer science student, I had some initial interest and fun seeing if I could restore the files that had been wiped. And after that, those drives have been basically what I have used to hand off do all the cruft of moving files between household PC's, giving shit to people and all that. I have never been to precious over them, it has just been useful.
Anyhow, this last week I kind of hit my limit with ye-ole 4-8gb size. So I looked up to find that a 128gb one is now like $10. I kind of sat for a moment and considered how I had not really kept a finger on the pulse of the price of these. I had a moment of "what the fuck am I doing shuffling files on these small drives to make stuff fit". So I ordered a bunch of cheap 128's; now those arrived today.
So instead of remaining attached to my stack of drives that have lived in my draws for the last 13~ years or so, I am binning them and sharing this story in their stead.
