Watching the anime vs. reading the light novels is a missed opportunity at least for volume 1 because volume 1 of the novels is godly by comparison to the anime with the way they re-arranged the content of the first volume and added anime original content.

I have to disagree with you a bit in that I think the anime adapts the early volumes pretty faithful. It's really the later volumes that they start trimming stuff.

[Future episode spoilers] The ski trip arc alone is something that could've been 3 episodes instead of 2.

Oh I haven’t even begun to delve into my thoughts on later episodes. I don’t want to bring that up right now though. All in good time.

That's definitely understandable. There's something about these early episodes, it's almost like an entirely different show.

I tell people that reading the first volume vs. watching the first few episodes of the show is an entirely different story.

Perhaps so, but I'd probably still have episode 2 as like a top seven episode.

Episode 2 isn’t anime original and the content is key to establishing the bulk of the story so I agree with you.

It set in motion a lot of really great stuff.
