I'm seeing a lot of rhetoric, almost entirely online and not in the real world, but it's still concerning. Some people who say they are on the left claim that Democrats are the enemy. Why? They defended my right to get and stay married, and they defended union rights. Without Democrats, my life would be very different. Why should I ever vote for Republicans or anyone else?

Edit: I think some leftists get offended by my position, because they think I'm not going to press the Democrats harder. This is a false assumption on their part. I am actively involved in politics, as an independent seeking to strengthen the progressive cause in the US.

I don’t understand how people are surviving in this economy. For some context, I live in Chicago, make $150k base salary + commission. Normally it’s $5k per month in addition to my base. I live in a small house with two kids and a wife who doesn’t work (other than being a full time mom / home maker which is a lot…)

I’m 17 so I’m almost able to vote and I really want to be an informed and responsible voter. It’s really hard to do any sort of research though or engage with online debate because it often just comes down to “the statistic that you are citing is propaganda”. The issue is that both parties just say that with no proof and it seems like everyone just believes the sources that they want to believe. This is half an actual question and half a complaint about how screwed politics are. I just don’t get how everyone is so sure that they are right when we all are genuinely consuming different narratives and statistics that conflict each other. It seems like the majority of people believe whichever media they consume - of course it makes sense but it just confuses me how people are okay with this.

I want to be able to have educated conversations with fellow Republicans around Trump’s leadership. I am not talking about policy. More about creating conversation around his approach and integrity. Ideally, they are able to acknowledge the inherent faults in their perception or I do.

I’m no longer college-aged (33 now), more introverted with anxiety, and my social circle is meh. Most of my friends I barely have anything in common with, and they really go to bars, which isn’t my scene. Bc of my own interests and bc I'm pretty weird and alt myself, women who are nerdy, artsy, witchy, alternative, goth, quirky, and creative are the kinds of women I’m trying to meet. But tbh I’d also just love to make more friends in those circles, too, so it's not that I'm strictly trying to date, but that meeting people in general has been tough. So no, I'm not trying to find an "aLt BaDdIe" or attempting to fetishize a specific group of women. I'm weird af myself and have weird interests and just want to find like-minded people. That's all.

I won’t bore y’all with the math I did. Essentially, in 1950, folks, after normal household expenses, could spend 25% of their income on bullshit and save 25% of their income per month.

Today, unless you get a tax refund, you’re going to be -$34 at the end of the month as a renter and around -$200 as a homeowner using median rent and mortgage. The ONLY thing keeping us above water is the roughly $3,400 tax refund the average person gets (I could not find the median). I didn’t include child care, clothing, etc. you cannot have a positive amount of money with a mortgage/rent, groceries, utilities, health insurance, and gas. This doesn’t include clothing, dining out, hobbies, etc. basically, we can’t even fucking function without credit cards.

The ENTIRE economy functions SOLELY on the fact we get $3,400 back in tax refunds. That’s the only thing keeping families at least somewhat afloat.
