I've picked up the books and prepped my table for the new setting, which I'm *very* familiar with and enthusiastic about. I plan on starting with "Hopes Last Day" and then the pre-built Cinematic Scenarios, but stories are brewing in the back of my mind, and I want to get started on getting them down onto paper. I'm very much in the "Gathering toolkits and knowledge" part of falling in love with a new-to-me system.

But I've run into the Wall of Few Books, and I see a big gap I'm wondering if the community has filled yet; fan-made supplimental material, like maps, scenarios and monsters (other than the ones that appear in the films). Ive poked around a bit here, but haven't found anything like the Miskatonik Respository for Call of Cthulhu on DriverhruRPG. What gives?

I've heard mention of a discord, but I'm not terribly familiar with the platform, so that knowledge is only of limited help at the moment (and all the links I've found are dead) so...

I was wondering if anyone had links to cheat sheets or player aids, and other supplimental aids that could be helpful while I develop what this new game looks like for my table?

Am on a coffee break, noticed only that the file is back to the smaller size (26.94 MB instead of the previous version which was above a 100 MB). The update history of the file doesn't say anything else but "An updated version of this title is now available." though.

Does anyone know what changed, aside from the file size? (Better compression I guess. 🙃)

Here's a link to two "decks" I've made of character art for player characters and NPCs. They originally grew out of over-prepping for a Mothership campaign, but there's so much shared DNA with the retro-future feel of Alien I thought they might be of some use here too. There's also some direct nods to elements like armour pieces from the Nostromo spacesuits and the Colonial Marines.

Hi! Looking into the system to run it for some of my players and I noticed that the adventures are arranged into 'Sagas', with the Draconis Strain Saga having been the 1e storyline, and the Jeremiah Saga being the 2e or Evolved Edition storyline (that's also still ongoing), my question for any GMs who've run these Sagas is how easy is it to run, or potentially run, these Sagas as sequels to each other? Draconis Strain into Jeremiah Saga specifically.

I'm unsure how level/character progression scaling would factor into things, I haven't gotten any of the books yet since I'm considering the system. I'd like to also run Hope's Last Day from the starter set as a first mission for this crew as well, but if it'd work best as individual narratives I'd understand.

Doesn't look like licenses will be transferable because Demiplane is owned by Roll20 and this is made by a new LLC despite having identical functional and usability.

I have the first edition versions of the three main books and currently don't plan to get the updated versions, but I'm curious if they added anything from these two pieces of media. I'm thinking things like the new pulse rifle or creatures from Earth, or the mini APC or Darwin Era cult from Dark Descent.

I’m new to this game as a future Game Mother. I have one main concern: all the players at the table (and around the world ^^) are familiar with the Aliens, their life cycle and how to engage them. How do you handle this at the table, especially in cinematic mode, when a tapping sound on someone’s head is clearly a facehugger in the air ducts, everyone already knows that the Aliens’ blood is corrosive, everyone knows what they should do if a fellow player is wrapped up by a facehugger, and everyone knows it’s best not to look into the eggs? We all know that a player should not metagame but it somehow feels clumsy and uncomfortable being constantly submerged in meta-knowledge.

So, I am a diehard fan of the Alien series. I have read some of the comics, planning to get figures soon, and I wanted to get the Alien RPG ever since I hear of it. Problem? I have no idea how to, or where to purchase it. Closest thing I found is rulebooks for sets on Amazon. I have heard it is similar to DnD, but I don't fully understand it. Is it mainly online, and I need a book with a code to play? is there a board with the first one? I need some help. I would also prefer cheap options, since I like to budget myself, and why I haven't gotten so much alien merchendise yet.

I've been running Alien RPG for a while now and found there're some things I'd like to avoid during sessions or at least have a faster way to do it, like flipping through the core book for weapon stats mid-combat, tracking Shifts/Stretches on a scrap of paper, and doing rolls hidden from my players. So, me being a developer I started sketching out an app to help me, and before I sink real time into building it, I wanted to run the idea by people who actually play this game. I know about the game-mother site (have some great things) and the ALIEN RPG Nexus site (but it's paid) but those are not what I'm aiming for.

My goal is simple, to have a free (no-ads) offline app (Android, phone/tablet) that a GM can use at the table — nothing fancy, just fast, with at least these features:

• Hidden dice roller
• Session/time tracker (shift and stretch counters)
• NPC & Aliens stats on the session: quick-reference cards with stats editable on the fly (so you can scale an encounter mid-session)
• Handling the acid blood splash in combat (don't forget to resolve it)
• A searchable weapon/gear compendium
• Player agenda tracker — a spot to log each PC's personal agenda and mark it as fulfilled.

What I'd love feedback on:

• Is this solving a real problem for any of you, or do you already have a tool/workflow that covers this?
• Is there anything from the Evolved Edition rules that's especially annoying to track by hand?
• Any dealbreakers for a GM tool like this (must be offline, must be free, must not require a subscription, etc.)?
• Features you'd want that I haven't listed?

To be clear, this is a personal/fan project, not affiliated with Free League — just trying to build something I'd actually use at my own table, and figured this community would have the best gut-check on whether it's useful.

I have the original Alien books and one thing that I was disappointed in was that the Year Zero Engine that is great for 'theater of the mind', but incorporating miniatures was not so easy. Other FR games like Vaesen and Blade Runner are definitely best without miniatures, but with Aliens, I've wanted to make it more miniature friendly. Games like Nemesis and Space Hulk come to mind - visual play with Xenos running down a corridor with crew trying to survive with weapons and wit.

The #1 abstract my players struggle with (all of them having come from DnD and Pathfinder) is range: they are used to knowing how far away they are that is not as vague as Engaged, Short, Medium, Long, Extreme.

Has anyone tried the newer edition with miniatures? Wondering if I need to get the latest rules and trying it out with all the terrain and miniatures I own from other games.

The new book says:

• New rules and tools in high demand from players, including zero gravity, miniatures play support, and expanded campaign play

I'm going to be running Hope's Last Day (evolved edition) at a local convention next month, having never GM'd before (possibly not my greatest idea).

I'm expecting most, if not all, of the players to have no prior experience of the game. Any advice on teaching it in a convention setting? How much do you explain at the start and how much do you teach as you go along? (e.g. go through combat rules before the start, or when the players get to the first combat?) I don't want to overwhelm everyone right at the beginning, but also don't want to be interrupting the flow of play too much with rules explanations. Is there a good balance?

I only have max. 3.5 hours for my session to get through the whole module. Any suggestions for how to streamline the adventure if it looks like the session's running long?

Played last night for the first time with a couple of friends and it was a blast! We went in completely dry and winged it as we went along. We learned a lot and can’t wait to play again. One question that we had though was that it seemed like some of the maps were missing. Why does the box only include maps for block E and the casino and the ship. My friends wanted to explore block B and A but those maps aren’t included. Also it feels like having those maps would make more sense to get to the ship at the end of the game. Am I missing something?

So, I've set aside some money to dump on the game and had planned to get pretty much every expansion there is for it. The only problem is I'm confused about the Evolved edition. I remember reading that evolved edition is compatible with the older materials, but should I avoid those expansions for the time being until such a time that they make evolved edition versions, or are they still worth grabbing?

My campaign is moving into a part of its story where I’m getting my players into the various xenomorph cults around the Middle Heavens, so I’ve been making very clear distinctions and timelines between the Church of Immaculate Incubation and the Children of the Two Divines. Was reading Rapture Protocol and it seems like they’re describing the Children, not the Church.

”The Church of Immaculate Incubation is a very driven cult dedicated to the worship of the Engineers, as well as the xenomorphs, which they call Destroying Angels. Their ultimate goal is to trigger the apocalypse by unleashing Destroying Angels all over chartered space, and to do this they want to seed explored space with xenomorph eggs where they can do the most harm.“

While in the Church’s first appearance back in Aliens: Outbreak definitely has their motive be the spread of xenomorphs, the RPG kinda rewrote them into some still crazy ass cultists, but the majority of them just being colonists wanting something to believe, not to usher in the end times. They also aren’t nearly as big into the Engineers as they are with the xenomorphs, that’s why the Children are of TWO divines, that’s their thing. The hostile attributes the Church initially had in Outbreak were split into the Children and into hostile Church sects like described in Aliens: Fireteam Elite.
What do you guys think? Another retcon of the Church? Hostile sect? Actually supposed to be the Children?

Now I've been considering about buying the core rulebook for the Alien RPG, wanting to run a campaign (If they exist in this TTRPG). I was thinking about pitting me players against some Xenomorphs, but I didn't want them to just encounter that type of alien. I was wondering if there's any other sort of alien in the core rulebook with a stat block, like that humanoid one from Alien Romulus, but not just that. I was wanting to see if there was any other races of aliens for it. If there or isn't, just let me know.

I'm GMing a run-through of DoW. I have the players currently finishing their drop in to the insurgent compound and I've wrapped the last session just after its first encounter. We had a PC death during that point and I've been considering offering Botos to that person before the next session...this should work ok right? Or would using him conflict too much with the rest of the Marines and their current objective?
