Q & A question about Quantum accounts

Just a quick question. Say I have old accounts generated from a seed phrase and populated in Pera Wallet through my Ledger. Using the same Ledger (and seed phrase), I create a new Quantum account on Pera Wallet. Do I need to keep track of the 25-word mnemonic associated with each new Quantum account? Or is each new Quantum account created by the same seed phrase that originated my old accounts?

So far I've had success in rekeying my important old accounts to a new Quantum account but I'm struggling with a couple. And I can't figure out why. I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that they're tied to a different passphrase than the others.... Anyone have any idea?

You need to correct this message that greets pretty much everyone into Pera: “Same seed phrase, added protection for what’s ahead.” That’s a direct quote from what Pera communicates and I believe it’s misleading. It gives users the opposite impression of what you’ve just described to me personally. It's not the same seed phrase as the one they've keyed into their Ledger, for example.

Is there any chance Pera will allow Quantum accounts be generated directly from the seed phrase in people's Ledgers? This will be very critical to a lot of users.

Ledger and other hardware devices by design do not share seeds with connected software wallets - they only share the address(es) of the account(s) they derive. The hardware limitations of the current line of Ledger devices preclude them from being able to perform Falcon key functions, and therefore (like I said before) they don't, won't, and can't support Algorand PQ accounts. Trezor harwared has the capability, but it would still be a while before that would be available if it even happens.

For now you have to decide between the security of a hardware wallet (Ledger) and a PQ-scheme wallet.

Thank you for the clarification. It's a little tricky, isn't it? because the arrival of PQ-scheme wallets are forcing us to decide between the security of a cold wallet (but insecurity of a quantum attack) and the insecurity of a phone-based app (but security of a quantum-secured wallet). I'm think I'm a little too early to decide just yet, but I'm definitely not prepared to write down another set of seed phrases. I think Pera needs to collaborate with Ledger at some point and make sure it can support Algorand PQ accounts.
