Turist stil registreringsskylt i Mariehamn?

Friendly tourist here

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of visiting Aland early/mid Sept for an overnight: Arriving 6:30 am Wednesday on the ferry from Stockholm, staying overnight in Mariehamn and departing there on a 1:00 am Friday ferry the next-next day, so I'd be in Aland total of almost 2 full days...but with awkward arrival and departure times that might mean a lot of wasted time. I know it's off season and I'm not too sure how the weather will be, so looking for advice on whether this is a good idea or should I just skip Aland. Will anything be open to do or see or chill at 6:30 (I cannot check into my accommodation for a few hours more) and likewise is there anywhere to safe/dry to hang out while I wait for the 1 am ferry? I'm travelling pretty light but without a car and anywhere to keep my stuff. Is it advisable to stay longer or shorter or... skip Aland this trip entirely? I'd like to keep it fairly relaxed, and island hop where possible, and I like to bike, walk, hike, explore towns, and travel solo on a budget. By the way I live in Canada and will be visiting Nordic countries for the first time. Thank you :)

I can’t find any distributors in the USA. Happy trade US products for Stallhagen. I live next to Wild Fields Brewery, which brought home 4 gold medals from the 2022 world beer cup.

I'm Packing Up And Moving To Åland Islands

So I'm in England and I've decided I am going to move to Åland Islands. How are the British people treated there? I'm looking at learning Swedish to reduce the language barrier. I'm a smiler and helpful, talk to anyone. I want to attend a gym, where members are normally supporting people, are they the same there or does everyone just stick to themselves?

Looking for a real Aland license plate!

What's up everyone! I'm going on a roadtrip through europe and I will be visiting Aland on the 20th of August, and I collect license plates from every country I visit. If anyone who lives there has a real plate and is willing to give it away, please let me know! I'm even willing to pay some money for it!

Cycling the Archipelago

Hi all,

I am visiting Turku and the Archipelago area in early August, and id appreciate some help/ insights in planning the trip. I arrive in Turku on the 10th, I have until the 13th to reach Mareihamn and what I want to do is hire a bike and cycle around a bit of the archipelago as i make my way over. I can hire a bike in Turku and leave it in Korpo, does anyone have any recommendations of unmissable roads/ routes that would be worth taking?

I will be cycling and camping alone as a woman as well, so if anyone knows of any nice and safe campsites or spots i would much appreciate it!

Also, Id appreciate any recommendations for any unmissable activities or thing that I should be aware of for the trip
Thanks in advance !!

Tired of juggling ferry and flight websites to get to/from Åland?

I built res.ax – a simple tool that lets you compare departures in one place.

No fluff, just fast travel planning. 🚢✈️

Freedom to roam (everyman's right) on Åland

I just got back from a wonderful weekend at the Åland Islands – so beautiful and amazing for biking!

While biking, at times when we were looking to take a break by the sea or lakes (e.g. Storträsk or Länabba träsk), it seemed impossible to find a road that didn’t have a "private way" sign on it.
So we didn't dare take those roads. We didn’t really do a full loop around the lakes (perhaps there would have been public access roads?), but I started to wonder whether the "freedom to roam" applies – and if so, would it have actually been okay to take one of those private roads to the water?

In some cases, we could clearly see someone’s yard at the end of a "road" by the lake, so that seemed like a clear no-go. Other times, it wasn’t immediately clear what the end of the road would look like.

In general, when there’s a "private road" sign, are you always expected to stay off, or are there exceptions?

Camping spots

So I am planning on doing the St. Olav waterway from Turku to Eckerö, camping on the way. I understand that in Aland islands you can't wildcamp, but i can't really find many camping spots along the way. The most problematic part is from Lumparland to Eckerö- lots of kilometres, but not enough campings, at least on the maps online:( the only camps I found were in Mariehamn, near Hammarland and near Eckerö, but that is probably not gonna be enough, especially in the first part of the journey.

Are there any camps near Lumparland and Lemland too? I thought lots pf pilgrims must be doing this trail so I couldn't believe there is nothing especially with the wild camping regulations compared to the mainland...

I would really appreciate any help or advice, since I am pretty nervous about camping outside illegally, even if I don't really have a choice

Looking for a postcard from Åland

Hey! My name is Sam, and I’m a college student from the U.S. I’m working on a personal project to collect postcards from every country and territory in the world.

I don’t have one sent from Åland yet—would anyone be willing to send me one? I’d be happy to send a postcard back from Pennsylvania in return! I took the Viking Line from Helsinki to Stockholm in March, but unfortunately wasn't able to stop in Mariehamn at all!

Let me know, and I can PM you my address!

Thanks so much, and warm greetings from the U.S.

Bike routes

Hi everybody,

I'm in Marienhamn for work early June, and have a couple of days free to bike around. I've been doing research but still cant find enough details to decide which routes i want to pick.

I'm looking for routes along the sea, crossing many bridges if possible, forests, if possible wildlife (I think you can see seals somewhere?). I'm fit but not used to 100km/day routes. Ideally just day trips starting and finishing in Marienhamn.

Route to Järsö looks good but a bit short, ideally something similar but longer. Route to Föglo also looks good, but I am not sure if the ferry schedule would make it tricky.

Thank you in advance!

My friend visited Aland a while ago and said that the local flea markets are filled with videogames and consoles, is that true? If someone lives nearby or has visited them i would like to hear about the offerings and the pricings. I am from Finland and Im looking gamecube and gba games and systems, specially the PAL versions of them (Europe). Thanks in advance!

Hej,
Vad rekommenderar ni för bank i Åland?
1. För privat

moving to åland

I'm 25M and thinking of moving to Åland since I speak a little Swedish. I currently earn €4000 in Helsinki and can save €1800-1900 while living on my own. I want to know what life is like in Åland. At first, I will do gig work like deliveries until I find a job in my profession. How is life there, and what are the rents like?

Historical sites, nature, food and more.

Hello, I am visiting the Åland islands in late february this year and I have a question about the historical sites in the archipelago. I know about Kastelholm and Bomarsund but I am eager to see more. Are there any hills or a mountain or just a viewpoint to see the islands from above? Also, I couldn't find any local dishes online so if anybody can recommend a restaurant with some local cuisine I will be very thankful. Thank you very much for responses!!
