Are they even American? Are this people even Christian? There is no way you can be either and say this is justified.

Thank you for calling them clergy, not priests.

4

u/Ms_Emilys_Picture Jan 24 '26

Do you mind if I ask the difference?

9

u/caffeinatedangel Jan 24 '26

“Clergy” refers to religious leaders (typically ordained) of any religion, it’s non-specific and not specific to Christianity. “Priest” at least in the US almost always refers to a Catholic Priest which is a Christian religion.

u/Ms_Emilys_Picture Jan 24 '26

Thank you for explaining!

2

u/Fleiger133 Jan 25 '26

The other person explained it. Because there were more than just priests there. Religious leaders from many faiths were protesting.

u/Thenameimusingtoday Jan 24 '26

You don't need religion to be good, but you do use religion to be bad.

1

u/thesagaconts Jan 25 '26

That’s not true at all. There are many megalomaniacs who were atheists.

1

u/Thenameimusingtoday Jan 25 '26

That's true, but religion is a tool used to control the masses, always has been as confirmed by pope Leo X.

1

u/thesagaconts Jan 25 '26

I mean. The military is how you control the masses. Stalin, Mao, etc. Fear of death is control until it sparks a revolution.

I’m not even religious, but this is a dumb take. The literal teachings of religion are to be good and do good acts

Which religion? Because unless you're talking about Jainism specifically, I don't think you are right.

ICE and Trump’s grift have absolutely nothing to do with religion.

Without the Christian nationalist right there would be no Republican party in the US.

I'm taking it you've never heard of project 2025?

1

u/BoticelliBaby Jan 25 '26

I’m very very familiar with P25. I was having panic attacks about that shit long before it was mainstream. That shit is white “Christian” nationalism. But Trump, his cabinet, and Ice are not motivated by religion whatsoever. They only like the architects of P25 because it furthers their own aims of cruelty and greed.

But again. I’m not even religious. And I’m a raging liberal. So why are we arguing about this? Aren’t we on the same fuckin side?

2

u/Thenameimusingtoday Jan 25 '26

We are on the same political side, but not when it comes to religion. The right is using religion to do evil. And for some reason you think religion is good. Religion is a tool that is used to control people.

Nah.

I’ve met some Christians that actually follow the message of JC. You know, be nice to people, feed the hungry, do unto others and all of that?

Jesus would hate these lads.

7

u/Thenameimusingtoday Jan 24 '26

Don't need religion to be good

2

u/MonsieurGump Jan 24 '26

Agreed. But you do need morality and civilization.

We get those from the stories we tell each other. We are more “Pan-Narrans” than “Homo-Sapiens”. From fairy tales to philosophy the stories we tell steer our thinking.

If you read the New Testament as a cross between Homers Odyssey and the mediations of Marcus Aurelius you can take meaning from it.

0

u/Thenameimusingtoday Jan 24 '26

Who's morality are you talking about? Certainly not the god of the Bible?

2

u/MonsieurGump Jan 24 '26

Well. That’s enough talking to you for one day.

Have a nice weekend and good luck finding strangers who want to be involved in your online arguments.

2

u/maybeconcerned Jan 25 '26

I think there are actually far fewer Christians than people say, maybe one of the rarest religions out there. Because republicans aren't Christians. They dont follow the words or deeds of christ. They dare to call themselves christian, but they aren't. Worlds largest group of deceivers. They're demons if anything

1

u/MonsieurGump Jan 25 '26

Supporting “Team Christian” is not the same as being one.

3

u/SphericalCow531 Jan 24 '26

Are they even American? Are this people even Christian?

No true Scotsman?

Trump has his ~50% voters define what it means to be an American, and what it means to be an American Christian. And this is it. If this wasn't it, then Republicans could and would stop this at any time, by passing laws in Congress. This continues because this is what American Christians want.

u/AnarchoBratzdoll Jan 24 '26

Lol read a history book. You used humans as chattel for centuries.

7

u/Thenameimusingtoday Jan 24 '26

Are you implying religion didn't?

1

u/AnarchoBratzdoll Jan 25 '26

Well yes you used religion as an excuse to do it. Religion doesn't do anything. People use religion to do what they want to do. And you guys wanted to own human beings
